Okay, so aside from tires wearing out. What do I need to look for on my wheels as they get more miles on them? I have a set of mavic kysrium that I train with and they have close to 5,000 miles on them. How long are wheel bearins good for? Anything else to think about?
sometimes, if you hold the fork lightly and spin the wheel, you can feel some grinding if the bearings are going bad.
Take the wheel out of the bike and hold it by the axle, then give it a gentle spin. You can feel bearing problems through the axle. Also sight along the rim as it spins to make sure it’s still true. Look for side-to-side and up-and-down “hops.” You can do this more formally if you have a truing stand. Make sure the axle has no play if the bearings have adjustable cones. Wiggle the spokes to make sure they’re all still tight.
