Wheel Cover Install Questions

Ok finally getting to installing my wheel cover from wheelbuilder.com. Thought it might be fast but not sure about a few things. There are 2 sliver AL screw & holders. I assume those were just for shipping & are not used in the install. I received 10 black screws & 2 groups of 10 plastic holders each group a differetn length. Is there are purpose to the different length holders or do I just use the appropiate ones for my wheel width? I assume the 2 extra are in case I lose them.

I see whre seeral mention using blue locktight on each of the screws. Someone suggested using longer 8/32 x 1/2 machine screws with washers (to keep the screws from slipping through the holes). Is that necessary as it adds weight.

Lastly how does one go about topping of the air, a crack pipe adapter or just pullig the stem away?

Thanks,

Barb

good luck.

Silver screws are for shipping/extras. Use the black coated screws and nuts. Use the shorter ones unless you have a thick rim (i.e., Zipp 404 or similar) that holds the wheel covers quite a distance apart.

I don’t use locktite, extra washers, or any of that sort of stuff and have never had a problem with them loosening or pulling through. If they are cut for your specific wheel you should be able to obtain a nice tight fit that won’t flop around.

Wheelbuilder asks you how many spokes your wheel has to assure that the screw holes don’t interfere with a spoke. You should be able to center the cutout with your valve stem so that you can use a right angle adapter aka crack pipe to air them up without a problem.

Thanks for the reply. I wondered about the locktight when I saw they were plastic scews. Since I got mine from wheelbuilder.com & provided all the spoke count it should go easier than if I was trimming it myself.
