Just thought I’d put this question out there:
A friend is loaning me his HED3’s (clinchers) for IMoo. I will definitely be using the front wheel. My question is about the rear wheel.
I have a wheel cover from Wheelbuilder that I’ve been using with a Ksyrium SSC SL. The wheel cover has my custom graphics (by Tai), which I like, and which make me readily identifiable to my friends and family who will be there cheering me on. My main goal at Moo is to have fun, but I also have some time goals that I would like to make, and which will probably have an impact on my main goal (depending on how close I get to those time goals).
So, with that in mind, assuming the conditions are not overly windy/rainy/cold, and assuming I ride within my means, is it more advisable from a pure time perspective to go with the rear HED3 or will my wheel cover and heavier Ksyrium (I’m assuming it’s heavier) slow me down a lot more on the hilly course?
I know that’s hard to answer considering all the variables that go into a race, but I’m really just looking for folks’ opinions. I’m not really married to one way or the other, but having the wheel cover would be more spectator-friendly for my “cheering section.”
Any thoughts?
