Newbie question… When switching trianing to race wheels - Does the cassette have to be changed to race wheels? The LBS was not encouraging 2 cassettes in regards to chain wear.
What do other folks do?
Thanks
Separate cassette on each wheel. The “matching wear” issue is a non issue as long as you keep your equipment in good condition (ex. check your chain for excessive stretch every couple of months). The only time to swap out cassettes is based on course conditions…or having a really tight budget.
Also, unlike bike racers, triathletes don’t really log that many race miles; so the race wheels are usually in pretty good shape.
PS: Kudos to the bike shop for giving you their point of view and not just trying to sell you an extra cassette though.
Thanks.
Yes credit to the shop or they think I am not handy enough and I will come in with my wheels everytime I need a swap!
Yes, I agree…
Keep your stuff in good working order and you won’t have issues changing cassettes.
