What's your favorite running shoe store?

Tri-Sition Area in San Antonio
.

the local shop I really liked got sold and the new owners really made the shop suck and are sort of DBs.

I order mine from holabird sports, much cheaper.

Interesting.

I kinda side with CPT Chaos…But I’ll phrase it differently. And a disclaimer…I’m not picking on any particular running store, I’m picking on the business model. That being said, running stores are out-of-date, a relic of the 70’s and 80’s when mass merchants didn’t carry running stuff and the internet didn’t exist.

Now? You can do 10 min of research online and figure out what kind of shoes might suit you, then make a surgical strike on a Dick’s, Oshmans, Sports Authority, RoadRunner, SierraTradingPost.com, REI, whatever to score your shoes, and try on several similar kinds, and buy them at 20-30% less. And the detractors will say ‘what about coaching and gait analysis?’. A: The free coaching you’d get from a running store (unpaid) is negligible, and the number of running stores that do gait analysis are few as well.

I live within 5 miles of two Hanson’s running shops in MI…some of the most elite US distance runners are the staff. Love the shops, but they’re not cost competitive, and don’t offer services to make up the cost differences. Awesome shops, but not better than the alternative of researching your shoes yourself and going online or to a mass merchant to order.

First Place Sports Jax and Orange Park, FL

It’s a tie…Ragged Mountain Running in Charlottesville, VA and Final Kick Sports in Virginia Beach, VA.

DSW or Famous Footwear. Or the outlets in Jackson, NJ or AC

I’m not picky

Running Room.
Locations all over Canada and parts of Midwest USA.
The group runs organized by each store twice a week let me run with a group no matter what part of Canada I’m visiting (I travel quite a bit on business)

Man, I gotta say Boulder Running Company in Boulder. They can be a bit snobby but it’s the best shop I’ve ever been in, and they know their stuff so the snobbery can almost be justified.

Holabird Sports, online is the only way to go, better prices and they carry my size, retail stores do not.

What’s your beef with Running Away Multisport? I think its a great store, especially for not being a primarily running store. They do great work, and also put on a lot of great events.

Fleet Feet Piper’s Alley is obviously a great store too, but I can’t understand why you would think Running Away is terrible unless you, personally, had a bad experience there.

Big Peach Running Co. in Atlanta

-All employees are actual runners, they do video gait analysis, and they put on/sponsor several local road races that have become very popular.

The Tech Shop in Calgary. Been there for 32 years and all employees are avid runners. Actually know what they are talking about and use the products they sell.

any store i can find last years model for $30 cheaper than this years model shoes.com or kelleys, etc…
