I don’t get the recent trend of subject lines that aren’t complete (they are half a thought, which is then completed in the beginning of the post). Things like “Am I…” and then the first line of the post is something like “…really stupid?” There is a post on the front page right now (sorry to pick on you, newbz) which goes “Does Walmart?” // carry 700c tubes? I don’t understand this. You don’t get any points for having thread views. So why wouldn’t you just write “Does Walmart carry 700c tubes?” If I know the answer, I click and reply. I am totally at a loss regarding why you’d want to draw someone into your thread… Anybody? What am I missing??
You really ought to have titled this post: “What’s with…”
.
I was close. But then I’d be “that guy.” I’d be the guy I’m ranting about.
A double wammy is now on front page. Subject line says, "This is pretty good . . . " Then, in the post, there is slmply a link (not functional as well, but i can’t complain as I do that too on my Mac). Tell me why I should go to the trouble of cutting and pasting the link into my browser when I have no idea what I’ll see. Will it be humorous, educational, etc?
.
That was me. I don’t know how to fix the link. I’ll go edit it for you though so you know what its about.
My thought was that the ST admin deliberately were condensing titles in an effort to increase click counts/ad revenue…
Guess not. ;o)
But really…it IS really annoying when folks bait the subject line. MUCH worse than some folks at work who write their entire email in the subject line!
Frank Day has to, or nobody will read his guerrilla Power Cranks ads.
…no idea. Funny, though, I see a couple on the front page. Perhaps people are thinking Bill Gates is giving his money away, and that for every ST forum post you make, you get $20 per view. So we’re all missing out, really.

I think it’s a combo of people trying to be clever/cutesy and also hoping to get more views and thus more responses. Annoying, no?
