First, Cheney says he’d never met Edwards before their debate (he had, twice, once mentioning him by name when introduced). Now, Bush says he doesn’t remember saying something pretty important about Osama “Dead or Alive” bin Laden:
Mr. Bush incorrectly denied saying last year that he was no longer concerned about finding Osama bin Laden.
Mr. Kerry, criticizing the president as shifting his attention from that search to the Iraq war, said: "Six months after he said Osama bin Laden must be caught dead or alive, this president was asked, ‘Where’s Osama bin Laden?’ He said: ‘I don’t know. I don’t really think about him very much. I’m not that concerned.’ "
Mr. Bush denied making the remark. “Gosh, I don’t think I ever said I’m not worried about Osama bin Laden,” he said in the debate. “That’s kind of one of those exaggerations.”
But at a news conference on March 13, 2003, Mr. Bush said just that when asked why he rarely mentioned Mr. bin Laden any more. “I don’t know where he is,” Mr. Bush replied. “I just don’t spend that much time on him really, to be honest with you.”
He added at the time: “I’ll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him.”
I hope you are right and that the Kerry campaign tries to convince people that Bush is not sufficiently proactive in the war on terror. Somehow I doubt that will work for Kerry.
At least one of those comments was followed by the opinion that UBL should be the who should be worried, not Bush.
Why did you exclude that fact?
Also, Cheney and Edwards had met briefly before the debate. Cheney’s point was that Edwards is a no show as a Senator. None of their meetings were in the Senate, so Cheney’s point is quite valid.
Why exclude that fact? Why not a whole truth instead of half truths.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with their memories (well, maybe Bush’s).
I think it was a simple gambit - a lot fewer people are going to be watching any factchecking programs after this compared to the number who are going to watch me zing this guy right now. And the instapolls won’t have time to do verification before the polls are taken, so it can only help in the short term.
But, what’s with Senator Kerry’s memory. He comes back from Vietnam and starts criticizing the Vietnam War. Not just a little, all over the place. Works very hard to get the United States to leave. What happens then? 3,000,000 are killed by the people we were fighting. Does Senator Kerry remember them? Of course, not, he continues to believe that he was right to support our exit from Vietnam so that the Communists could murder as they pleased.
