I heard it made a really loud whining sound… That’s what I heard.
It’ s hard to tell from that photo but it looks a lot like a trainer my friend had about 20 years ago. If you do a google search for Houdaille Road Machine, you’ll find some info.

Is that something new from LeMond fitness? Or something old?
I assume it will be new. I remember seeing a few pictures on Cyclingnews showing the Garmin guys wariming up for the Prologue at the Giro and the photo caption mentioned the trainer as being a Greg Lemond product.
It’s a Lemond Revolution trainer. I was lucky enough to do some work with/for the company late in it’s development process, and have spent a lot of time on it. it’s pretty fantastic.
It has a super high inertial load, far greater than anything else on the market - which I am sure you will understand the value of.
After spending a bunch of time on it, my extra heavy flywheel Kinetic feels completely artificial.
I’m not sure how much I can say about the unit right now, but will check and see if the non-disclosure period is up…
PS - made a bet who the first person on here to notice/post about the trainer would be, and you were top 5. Nice!

Cool!
I wonder how much it will be?

I’ll second that – it strongly resembles the Houdaille Road Machine from the late 80s. I had one of those beasts. I think the flywheel was 15 lbs. so the pedal stroke felt very smooth, but other than shifting there was no way to increase resistance. I think it had a 6 cog freewheel, but I seem to recall that the unit was fixed and not interchangeable. I could be wrong about that latter statement though. I think I ended up giving mine to a friend. Funny, now all of a sudden I want it back.
In Lemond’s website, he did mention that he had a trainer (similar to what he is offering now) that he used back in the 80’s.
Which probably means he used that Houdaille thingy, and now he either got the rights to it or just copied it.

That’s okay, because Houdaille just copied Bouny’s original cycle ergometer from 1896.* ![]()
*Actually, hers was electronically-braked, thus allowing for control/measurement of power output.
Or the patent expired…
Looks like using a PT with it is out though.

According to the website, they have a wireless powermeter for it in the works. I’m not sure how it works, but if you knew the characteristics of the fan and measured the air density and also frictional resistance via a coast-down test I bet it would be accurate to w/in ~5 W (as long as you didn’t place the trainer too close to a wall, that is).
Great. Now I will have to worry about whether my trainer has a campy or shimano hub.
If I get a fork stand, can I ride this all winter without any wheels?

Yeah, you’re right. They show up at a lot of Pro Tour races, but they’re just there looking for attention.

So it’s revolutionary because it repackaged a 20+ year old trainer? Fantastic. Golf clap.
Sounds good in theory but also too expensive. Who wants to buy a second cassette for their trainer?
Few people appreciate high inertia trainers.
I’m not sure it has the highest inertia on the market either.
They say it actually comes with a Shimano 9 speed cassette? Probably a misprint. I think its a good idea, I really dont like the feel of standard trainers at all, the higher inertia sounds promising. If I lived somewhere I had to spend a bunch of trainer time it might be a sound investment.
But I didnt move to Phoenix to ride on the trainer… ![]()

Looks like they removed all the links…
Apologies to Lemond Fitness if they didn’t want to spread the word yet.
Apparently, it’s not on the main web page (it never was), but when I googled it, I guess it was a “hidden” webpage that they didn’t mean to bring out yet.
Good thing it’s in my browser’s cache and all that. In any case, can’t wait for pricing info on what looks like a really cool trainer (even if is based on a 30 year old Houdaille).
