Having done a bunch of Ironmans, I can’t say they are healthy. If she is coming off health issues, who put yourself through an Ironman ?
Yeah… I didn’t want to get into the why or why not’s… as an adult I assume she’ll make a fully-informed decision one way or another.

Then this is one of the silliest threads I have ever seen?
My friend is recovering from serious health problems and wants to train for an IM, is this okay?
And it’s silly for a person to concerned with a 4:03 ffinish that should have been 3:59?
You’re not being consistent in your evaluations. bad demon. bad. =)

You don’t know what her health problem is, I didn’t say it was “serious” and I didn’t ask if it’s okay. You obviously projected things into my post that I didn’t ask. She asked a question that I forwarded to posters on Slowtwitch. Don’t like it, don’t respond. Your subsequent question is a non-sequitur.
Tell her to do the training that is sufficient for completion of an Ironman. If the training doesn’t kill her spirit/desire, she can do the event just fine.
I’m not one of the natural endurance-athlete types, and the training was killing me…and I don’t think I was doing much more than 10-12 hours a week…not big volume by Ironman standards. I said I’d never do another IronDistance event a couple of weeks before the Big Day.
However, I found the event itself not so bad, even though it was a tough course, with a tough wind, and I sustained a potentially race-ending injury the first few seconds of the swim. I even finished with a decent time for an old first-timer. Heck, yeah, I’ll do some more at some point in the not-too-distant future. She may find a similar path in her search…the training will be the real test.
