What's the real deal on reflective tape?

Going to IMMoo - first MDOT race. The Athlete Information Guide has four full pages of rules but doesn’t say a thing about reflective tape. The only mention is the “Inside Out Sports Race Checklist” (which looks more like an ad) where it says simply “reflective tape (mandatory)”.

What’s the deal, are you required to have the stuff or not?

Good question. As yet conspicuously unanswered.

At the 1986 Bud Light Ironman Triathlon World Championship (the first and last time I did Hawaii…) the rule to have reflective gear on your race uniform was strictly enforced. There was a table at registration staffed with volunteers who were specifically checking. Rumor was that a pro or two was sent out of registration to fix reflective material to their uniforms.

Since then it would appear that the requirement has been relaxed in favor of issuing glow sticks to competitors after dark on the run.

Then again, you never can be too careful and I actually am packing some reflective stickers…

See you there- have a great race if I don’t meet you in person.

This is ST. You should know that if you plan on finishing after dark, you are forbidden to post here.

Good luck to you too. You should be able to pick me out - I’ll be the guy who is still slightly too big; has gray hair way too young; and doesn’t quite look like I belong. I should be hanging out somewhere solidly in the middle of the pack (if things go well).

Enjoy.

Oh… um… of course… uh… I don’t plan on finishing after dark. I’m going for an AG win and Kona slot. I just didn’t want to be DQed or get a time penalty for failure to have tape if it was required. Yea, that’s what I meant to say…

Yeah, that’s what I thought!

Good luck out there- Make our state proud!
