After eleven years of planning and saving, I’m finally replacing the saggy and rotten attached barn. The new one, in addition to being level and non-rotten, will have additional living space. Will now have more than just a single bathroom, up on the second floor, among other things.

Invite the LR over for a proper barn-raising party. We’ll have your new barn up in no time. You provide the beer.

The Amish barn raisings work as well as they do because beer isn’t provided. I’d happily host a midcoast Maine LR beer-drinking party, but I suspect that would lead to a barn just as crooked as the original.

I like it - but it’s a touch confusing in spoken conversation.

I’m always so impressed by the skill and delicacy that these tractor operators can manipulate their equipment. Enjoy!

That’s un-American!.

I did just totally steal that for Facebook, though.

Well, much of the money I was saving was inheritance. That better?

Definitely think twice about opening the kitchen door when this is what’s scratching on it:

Great late-breaking news: looks like I’ll be able to get a full basement under the near part (breezeway) after all. I knew that there was ledge under there, but didn’t know exactly how deep. The architect had drawn up alternative plans for a crawl space, just in case.

It’ll be a little shy of full height, but that’s okay. I’m short.

think of the bon fire you could have had…

Nom nom nom nom…

They shot down my idea of knocking it down by launching a 300lb bathtub at it.

Gee, I don’t understand why?

You’d think that after all of the hoops I’ve had to jump through for code enforcement, maybe they’d let me have just a little fun, but no.

BTW, this is what’s going up as the replacement:

I’m having it built as just a shell, and will do most of the plumbing, wiring, and finish work myself. Should keep me busy for a while.

Two things come immediately to mind. 1) Did you ask the operator if you could have 5 minutes at the controls? 2) Have you considered modifying your plans to show a bath tub being rigged off the right edge of the roof line?
