This summer when descending in Smugglers notch Vermont I reached 54.8 mph. Had to slow down because of wet pavement and a upcoming turn in the road. Okay and a little self preservation too. I know HTFU!! What has been the fastest that you have gone and on what type of bike? You know Road/tri/brand and how was handling? I was on my QR Lucero Lite. It tracked well and I expierenced NO shake what so ever. Whle reaching max speed or braking. I had a pair of Real design Ultras 40mm wheels on it at the time. Sorry if this has been covered b4 but could not find in archives and I am bored.
I’ve gone ~600 mph. But that’s nothing. I have friends and family who have topped Mach 1.7
I’ve gone 56 on an early 90s Bianchi road bike, stock Mavic wheels, on the downhill side of Old Stage Road during the Boulder PeakTriathlon. No doubt others have gone faster on that same stretch of road, but now there is a 35 mph speed limit during the race.
I’m a bike noob with very flat riding terrain in central Indiana and a lingering sense of self preservation that I will attempt to overcome a bit next year. I have just barely exceeded 30 mph in the 2 months I’ve been biking. I ride a Giant TCR 1 carbon road bike.
Nice work on breaking the 50mph barrier. I think the fastest I’ve gone might be in the 48-50 range.
64 mph for about 10 seconds…long sweeping downhill with a tailwind. It was just before a race so I was using my tri spoke and disc. I hit 50 mph all the time…I usually come out of aero around 55 (I get a bit nervous above 55).

I saw Dave Stoller hit 60 on a road bike on a flat road while still in the small chainring.
P2SL w/ stock Mavic CX733 & Conti 700x23c
At IMC 2008:
McLean Creek 50.33mph 81kph
Ist roller 51.57mph 83kph
out of Twin Lakes 53.44mph 86kph
scared the hell out of me when I read my Max.
I worked out that if I descended at only 60kph
during the race I would lose less than a minute over 180k
but I would ultimately live longer.
PoC
no longer a speed demon
I think I hit close to 55mph on the descent to Keene at IMLP in 2007 on the first lap. I’ve also busted 50mph on some long descents in the Black Hills when I lived in Rapid City, SD.

Bikes not jets.
Well…in that case…63mph on a wide, sweeping downhill near Iwakuni and Hiroshima, Japan.
I hit 56-57 on a hill as the sun was going down with out being really able to see it felt faster, it was on a trek ttx.

Yeah but Dave was drafting off an 18 wheeler.
Funny!!! I sometimes try to time the metro bus after its stop to get a draft for a mile till the next stop on th eway to work. There is only one place on my route where I can do this though. Wow the other guy posted 64 mph that is impressive.
Nice, next time I am up on a nice mountain I am going to look for a nice dry day where I can take the sweeping turns fast.
48 mph
I’m a tad bit gun shy on decents since I went down last year going down GMR. I’ll go fast, but only within reason.
Wow the hills are not so steep here, fastest I was was 39 MPH on a downhill at the Tobay Triathlon last year on my Road Bike in its old build (Bikesdirect Mercier Galaxy with Sora and cheap Alexrims wheels but it did have Aerobars). I hit 39 MPH again on that hill this year with my Argon 18 Mercury (Dura Ace, wheelbuilder disc), however this year my average speed was 3 mph faster. However I am sure I went faster on the west side highway during the NYC tri however my computer crapped right out of transition.
62.5 mph at 2008 IMLP. I knew I was going FAST descending into Keene, and was afraid of braking too much with the rain, but I didn’t know exactly how fast until I picked up my bike up after shipping and checked the max speed on my computer. I threw up a little when I did…

I’m not at all a speed demon, and never have gone above 50 mph before! I have a Lynskey time trial bike with Mavic XP 21 wheels. There was no shake at all, but I remember my legs were shaking by the time I got to Keene, along with the rest of my body.
Only impressive thing I have is that I’ve gone 44.8mph on my mountain bike on asphalt (on 54 coming down from UNC Chapel Hill). Riding knobby tires too, not slicks (Kenda Klimax Lites).
Fastest I’ve done on my TT bike is low 50’s.
50mph, on a mid-90s alumin(i)um trek. the front wheel was a 32-spoke semi-aero wheel i’d built myself.
this was out in vermont, heading from rochester to bethel. i did the same route this past summer on my cervelo soloist, only hit 49. i do weigh less than i did when i hit 50.
