What's the current IM Florida water temp?

Does anyone know this?

Spinney

As of Saturday, water was in the 79-82F range.

Fall is finally here, and from here on out, we get daytime air highs of around 80F and overnight lows in the mid 60s along the coast. My guess for race day would be 74-75F

Damn - I certainly hope it cools down

Is there an official wetsuit policy regarding the use or non-use of wetsuits that WTC abide too?

it will…

Though if it’s at all close, they’ll probably manage to find an official 77F reading somewhere along the beach.

Which is an interesting contrast to the fall season locals races down here where someone will ask the RD what the water temperature is, and he’ll respond “toasty”

Are you bringing the Sweedish Bikini Team with you, if so then the water temp will be 80f and Ill draft off your team, hehehehehehehe
.

As far as I know it is the same as USAT.

78F and a wetsuit is not a good combo…too warm. I hope the temps take a real dive or stay above 78F.

Also of note… the race site shows 2800 people registered. Wonder how many will be out on race day? I couldn’t get a response from the race director on whether or not they actually have a ceiling on allowable numbers (I was curious). The bike course is a single loop so they can get by with more folks on the course than multiple loop folks but there has to be a limit in someone’s mind.

I suspect that has to mean IMFL is the top grossing race of all M.dot races $1,190,000 in entry fees not counting the ones that bailed out already and paid partial entry fees. It also sells out very quickly. Got a good thing going there.

I believe the rule is the same as the USAT, 78 or below.

But you can wear a wetsuit regardless, you just become ineligible for awards.

Current temp is 72 degrees!!! Perfect temp. From the NDBC website listed above…

Hurricane Wilma and a strong noth wind has stirred up the gulf and messed up the weather in florida. today’s paper shows the water temp off tampa as 64F. NOAA shows PCB at about 73F. things should get back to normal by the weekend but i doubt the water temp will be over 78 on race morning. the evening temps are going to be in the 60s, the days might hit 80.

GTG changed their rules, so it’s not the same as USAT. No wetsuits at all above 78 degrees. That having been said, if it’s borderline, I’d bet they’ll try their best to find a spot that’s at 78.

The last three mornings here in the Panhandle we have had temps in the mid-low 40s. That should cool the water some. I had frost on my car this morning.

I was going to bring a full suit and a sleeveless. I prefer to swim in the sleeveless. Think I’ll be ok leaving the full at home?

Thanks!

78 to 79 degrees as of noon 10/26.
Unless it breaks into the 60’s, I’m going sleeveless.

Where did you get those numbers? The noaa site has it listed as 73.8 degrees at 1pm eastern today.

Damn, below 75 would be PERFECT! Let’s hope it stays like this for another 10 days!!

Had to drill down quite a bit to find Panama City Beach.

That noaa site is fine for getting a rough idea of PCB temperatures, but if one is planning to do IMFL, it’s better to use the official water-temperature gauge that will be used for the race, as seen here:
