Whats new...Saucony Spring 2008

Whats new………………. SauconySpring 08

ProGrid Paramount a shoe with initial very limited launch Available to platinum dealers that pre-booked the shoe Sept 1 October 25 to all other dealers. MSRP $165!!!
This is a stability shoe but is targeting the mild overpronator, as this is only mildly medially posted. Features a full length flexion plate as in the Grid Sinister promoting propulsion at toe off. Full length progrid system with 25% more progrid material than the triumph has. Saucony Superlite midsole, upper has comfort-temp inner layer as a temperature regulator. Has a slimmer fit in toe box than oldstyle Saucony fit, more like the current triumph fit.

Triumph 5 msrp stays at $120 10/25/07 release
Is a half ounce lighter than the T4 but to me seems to be a similar shoe. 2 color options for men and women. More heel decoupling allows for various areas of striking the ground and improved rearfoot transition at heel strike. Full length superllite midsole and full length progrid. Midfoot shank is up under the midsole instead of outside, heel fit adjusted to not “poke” into Achilles (some had issue with this in T4) Arch lock now tied into the lacing on the medial side to “pull up” better when shoe is tied.

Trigon Ride color update (I think January) The Trigon Ride becomes the Progrid Ride 5/25/08 finally getting rid of the “Trigon” name….

Sinister color updates 1 in October and 1 in January

Hurricane 10 1/25/08 msrp stays at $130 mens weight 12.1 womens 10.1 has a more streamlined arch lock system. 2 colors with 1 main color offered in widths. Built on the same last as H9, but with a change in upper materials and change of overlays should “feel” brought in a little.

Omni 6 color updates plus the womens becomes SADMERC approved so can be used in Medicare’s diabetic shoe program. Omni 7 coming 5/25/08

Progrid Guide 2/25/08 finally breaking away from the mislabeled “Trigon” name…The new Guide has a slightly smaller medial post than in the Trigon 5 Guide to separate it further from the Omni in support, still mainly targeting the mild OPer. 2 colors for men and women with 1 color available in wides.

Stabil 6 color ups… Stabil 7 coming Sept 08

Type A2 1/25/08 weight reducing it down to essentially a racing flat from it’s previous version being sort of a “tweener” between lightweight performance and racing flat. It is now only 6.9 mens and 5.9 womens. Like the Tangent’s “Lickity Split” it has a “saying” on the shoe…”Kiss this” (how is that for attitude!)

Fastwitch 3 3/25/08 no longer doing both an endurance and light version, is now more like the endurance, is 7.3 oz mens and 6.2 womens
Also now offering kids versions of the Triumph for $55 and also another shoe called the Ignition $45

I think that is it…………

Hope they continue doing size 14 in the fasttwitch model!

I expect for them to do so, yes. I dont have my catalogs here with me at home right now, but am sure it is continuing

Any photos of the new type-A? Sounds like Saucony and ASICS both are really listening to their customer base!

Nice!

And thanks for the posts - awesome!

havent posted any images yet, saucony has sent them to me and I plan to release a post with all the images but havent had time. If you want one or two email me

I just bought a pair of Fastwitch Speed and wore them at Timberman 70.3. These are my second pair of Sauconys. I have a pair of Grids for training and I just love (both) of these!
I was a hard core Nike wearer for years as my parents both worked for Nike and I have a lifetime Nike employee family discount but I’m sold on Saucony’s now.

Wondering if I should buy another pair of Speeds right away now that you say they are no longer being made.
What is the difference between the speed and the endurance models if I may ask?

Welcome to SlowTwitch Jamie. I used to hang out a bit on the Runner’s World Forum and always enjoyed your informative posts over there. You also helped me out a few years ago by recovering my orthotics making them better than before they were new.

Nice to see you here.

Hi beatnic, thanks

hope the orthotics are holding up ok

I tried on the paramount today and to me they felt more like New Balance shoes than Saucony, I didn’t feel that the shoe locked in my heel as well as previous Sauconys have (I currently wear tangents). But the shoe was very light and felt responsive; but again I didn’t feel a ton of support in the mid-section of the shoe.

speeds have a carbon rubber forefoot (harder more durable more responsive rubber) plus this finger of plastic that extends from the arch support molding into the forefoot supposedly making it more responsive at toe off. Endurance has a much softer and a bit lighter (just a touch) blown rubber forefoot. I personally like the Endurance a LOT more than the Speed. The speed always seemed slippery when it got wet and although it was a nice shoe for a flat out 5K race where the firmer forefoot felt like it added some speed, the cushier and grippier endurance has my vote as the best flat on the market. If you can find the older original Endurance I liked that version better and have a personal supply stashed away;)
