Whats New Asics Fall 09

For fall 09 all new product will be available June 1, with the exception that Gold accounts can get the Nimbus, Cumulus, and 3010 as a May 1 delivery

Kinsei 3……I didn’t see this shoe yet so am going to rely upon the Asics Fall Primer for its description, the following is just a portion of it’s description but overall it sounds as if they realize the Kinsei 2 wasn’t as performance oriented as they would have liked (even though it outsold the original Kinsei), and have totally revamped the shoe. Asics is confident the new version will be much more well accepted by those looking for outstanding performance. I am unsure about the dating of this shoe if it will be ready for June 1 or not, it may be later:
*The development of the GEL-Kinsei ®3 began with the concept to improve on the adaptive characteristics of the GEL-Kinsei® 2, which were incredibly innovative but over-shadowed by the shoe’s excessive weight. Consequently, each major IGS® component featured on the update was re-designed to both improve adaptive function and keep weight to a minimum. The result is a new version that takes running shoe technology to a whole new level and weighs in at 12.6 oz (358 grams), a remarkable weight drop from the 14oz (409 grams) GEL-Kinsei® 2. *
In a Nutshell
*The GEL-Kinsei® 3 will continue to be ASICS’ House of Innovation, with the major focus on dropping weight from the previous version. The result is an update that weighs in at a remarkable 12.6 oz, compared to the 14 oz of the GEL-Kinsei® 2. The GEL-Kinsei® 3 features new, innovative tech introductions in the form of Guidance Line and the new Heel Clutching SystemTM. Existing technology has also evolved, namely through improvements to ASICS Discreet Heel System and Propulsion TrussticTM. A slightly taller Solyte® midsole platform provides a plush road feel, while the upper removes excessive overlays for optimal fit. *

Road Test
*ASICS developers were challenged to provide the true performance-oriented ride that the previous version lacked, and the lightweight platform of the GEL-Kinsei® 3 will go a long way toward making that goal come true. The road feel will be softer than before, but not too soft, while forefoot flexibility is dramatically improved. The upper fit is soft and comfortable. The heel fit is secure but not constrictive and the midfoot section wraps the instep securely. Forefoot vamp fit is about average - not too wide, not too narrow. *

New Features Guidance Line encourages the foot to maintain efficient gait and re-supinate at toe-off Heel ClutchingTM System drops weight and allows better heel fitting environment *Newly designed Propulsion TrussticTM enhances proper foot function by creating tension as foot progresses toward toe-off, mimicking the foot’s connective tissue * Midsole is spec’d at 53 degrees and midsole heights will go from 22/12 to 23/13 for a plush platform feeling *Stitch-less PHFTM execution for improved heel fitting environment * *GEL® Cushioning System in forefoot features twist gel for improved windlass mechanics *

Carry-Over Features *Solyte® 45 lasting * *ComfordryTM sockliner * Upper mesh is lined with Cuprothermo, creating improved thermal environment *Asymmetrical lacing system enhances Biomorphic Fit® System. * Discreet Heel set-up creates optimal shock attenuation and stability *Forefoot outsole is blown AHAR® for a softer road feel * Spacemaster mesh technology allows for superior moisture management and UV protection
Solyte® 45 lasting material and ComfordryTM sockliner enhances try-on feel and provides long lasting platform comfort.

3010…….still has forefoot cradle for late stage overpronation. Is going to be more stable than the 3000 was with a 2 mm wider platform in the forefoot. Will have a softer platform feel than current version which is a little firm. Has a bunion window for better forefoot fit and more ample toe box and longer vamp but still wraps the foot nicely. The upper will be simpler with less overlays and will have a softer fit/feel. The rearfoot has been changed with decoupling in the strike area combined with larger gel pad for better rearfoot cushion feel at heelstrike.

Nimbus 11 msrp increases to $125 weight goes down from 13.1 to 12.4 oz 3 widths available and 3 colors. New upper material from the synthetic upper that was in the 10, the new upper is a more traditional open air mesh. Overlays removed at end of asymmetrical lacing so is more open feeling to forefoot. Memory foam added to the tongue underside. Biggest change overall may be the weight reduction going from 13.2 to 12.4 created by the change in the upper and some midsole changes. That should be a noticeable decrease in its weight! The change in the midsole involves using “injected” Solyte instead of Compression molded and adjusts in forefoot with denser injection in mens vs womens to allow for the higher compression weight. Removed posterior seam on collar to reduce heel irritation. Overall the shoe looks good.

Cumlus 11 msrp increase to $100 not a lot of change…3 colors… Weight drops to 11.4 ounces. The shoe should have a slightly softer feel than the 10 now gender engineered space trustic so mens vs womens is different to give proper function to both genders. A new tongue construction is used in which the lateral half of the tongue is attached to the shoe so it opens up from the medial side only, supposed to provide better lateral support through the midfoot for underpronators. Reworked heel tab area to reduce irritation there.

Foundation 8 no change

Trail Sensor 3 The midsole height was reduced 1mm down to 21/11, this shaved off an ounce of weight. Now at 12.4 oz the shoe should respond better to changes in terrain, etc… The midsole received a softer version of solyte. The midfoot receives a new trustic system which morphs into a forefoot protection plate. The cool “inner lock lacing” system is mildly changed with change in the grommets and a change in the material to make it softer. More aggressive outsole.

Trabuco 12 both goretex $100 and water resistant $90 versions. The forefoot midsole was softened over the forefoot protection plate to improve forefoot comfort. The shoe is sipposed to be now going to a more technical type trail shoe vs the hybrid type of shoe, separating it more from the 2140 trail.

No Changes in the racing shoes

What’s the difference between the 2140, which I’ve been wearing for 10 years, and the 3010. I don’t really get who the 3010 is for.

I’m not really sure what it is… but i really cannot stand black or gray running shoes. Something about them just seems off to me. Though I just got my '08 2140’s in October/November though, so i guess i don’t really need any shoes anyhow. Everything looks pretty sweet though.

The 3000 (current) and 3010 (its update) are stability shoes that are available at gold account only retailers for asics. It is designed as one of the very very few shoes targeted for late stage overpronators as it has a forefoot cradle that supports the foot from midstance to toe off to prevent pronation in this phase of gait. The 2000 series does not offer the forefoot support, just more rearfoot pronation control, and overall more mild stability

The change from the 2130 to the 2140 was minimal, and the 2130 is a solid shoe. I just burned off my first pair, and was lucky enough to score 2 new pairs this week from the running shop at $55 a whack. To anyone in the market for a stability trainer/racer, you can’t beat the price (but size availability is getting limited).
