What's needed to maintain swimming form?

After a bit of hard work, I’ve improved my swimming time a fair bit and was wondering what is the best way to maintain my current form if I have to drop back to 2 swims a week?

Any specific sessions?

That’s a pretty open-ended question, especially since the details of what drove your improvement are unlisted, but if you are talking strictly metabolic fitness, research in the old days (and anecdotal evidence that I have seen) suggests that if you hit 40 minutes of threshold during those 2 days per week you can maintain a decent level.

The best suggestion would be to try something like that, using a set that you repeat once per month as a benchmark (like 20-30x100 on :10-:15 rest) and track your performance. If it trends sharply downward after a few months (and your not just on a bad day), then you may wish to adjust.
