Whats in a silver medal

I’ve been doing buckets of triathlons, but not ever much of just road running races.

So I headed over to this half-marathon this morning and got a silver medal. I asked around at the race what the difference was, but couldn’t get a sensible or consistent reply. Is there a rule that governs this?

I don’t understand the question. Difference from what?

Sorry.

I mean what is the criteria that defines the boundary between a silver medal and a bronze?

Is it 90 min? First 100 finishers?

If is like coins, then it has copper in it. If not then it could be silver plate or sterling. Regardless, it basically signifies a person did not win.

Gold is first, silver is second.

Huh?

Gold is first place.

Silver is second place.

Bronze is third place.

Everything else is a finisher’s medal, no matter the color… I’m still not following this question at all.

Yeah, my confusion exactly.

But somewhere in the stream of finishers they switched from silver medals to bronze medals. Silver medals were much rarer so I think that it had to do with some time limit or first n finishers.

Ohh okay I thought from your original post that you came in 2nd place and we’re confused about what you won, haha.

This actually souns pretty cool. I’ve seen races where the “first X number of finishers” got a special hat, so this may be similar. I’d bet they had a set number of them and then started handing out bronze medal when they were all claimed.

That’s not normal.

Huh?

Gold is first place.

Silver is second place. FIRST PLACE LOSER

Bronze is third place.

Fixed it for everyone!!!
