for those that have done either, what would you consider harder, both in terms of the event itself, and in terms of properly training for the event? a 50 miler trail run (i’m thinking of the mtn masochist trail run ) or an ironman (i’m thinking of the duke blue devil? i’im already assuming that a 100 miler is most difficult of all.
I’ve done an ironman, but would never consider a 50-mile run of any kind, let alone a trail run, let alone something called Mountain Masochist. (Where is this - right next to Mount Purgatory?) I’m just not sure my body could stand up to the training required for a 50-mile trail run up and down a mountain. Of course, it takes a huge amount of time to get proficient enough at s/b/r to do a decent job in an ironman, and I would guess that the 15-20 a week for iron training would exceed the training time required for a 50-mile run…but those training miles for the 50-mile mountain ordeal gotta be tough, eh? On a cost-benefit basis, though, the 50-miler has to be relatively inexpensive compared to the cost of an iron event, especially an M-Dot. Best of health whichever way you go on this!
IM is tougher than the several 50 milers I’ve done…but that isn’t to say that certain courses wouldn’t reverse that outcome.
