The Purple Menace showed up in force.

They ran out of flat coke, only had carbonated and no one had the recipe for flat coke.

Any other news?

Blake Becker took the overall.

My goal was 5:30 and I finished in 5:33 - can’t and won’t complain one bit.

Beautiful day for racing. I didn’t much care for the two-loop mass-start swim and the big inner-tube buoys were very hard to see because they were so low to the water. Great bike course - some rollers - great pavement for the most part. Good aid and support. Some hills on the run but not as bad as I thought it would be. Very pretty run course winding through the park. No mile markers, though, on the run course - my final nitpick.

Great volunteers.

Chip (Record) wore a clown outfit to the pre-race meeting. For real.

a good race, and the slowtwitchers were so good to meet. But I must disagree with the poster who said the run was not too bad. Of the first 30 finshers I saw 2 hills from the end, there were no smiles, and very little talk. And yes, I DO have photos to prove…

Blake won the race – around 4 hrs. Weather was perfect. Run course was brutal-hills. Bike after turnaround had a lot of wind. Mass swim start was an adventure, some people had a 50 yd lead at the start- didn’t know where to exit the swim. All in all I enjoyed the race. Pizza, sandwiches and water at the finish. I finished 25th overall at 4:48. It will be interesting to see the other reviews.

I bettered my previous 1/2 PR by about 30 seconds. I went 4:59:13, for 45th overall. Rough splits 33/2:34/1:49.

I was one of the unlucky ones at the start of the swim, off to the left, when all of a sudden we started, and I had about 100 yds to catchup. Other than that, and some weeds, the swim was good. Not too much contact considering the mass start. The weeds were only bad if you drifted north of the buoy line. If you stayed right on the line they were okay.

The bike was decent. Good weather, a little of a south wind to welcome us home from the out and back. Aid stations on the bike were excellent. Big kudos there, as that’s one of the tougher things to get right, at least compared to the other 1/2’s I’ve done.

The run. Yeah. There were hills. It definitely made you earn it. The first bit of hills wasn’t bad, it was the descent ( and the ascent ) from the group camping that was the brutal part. It hurt. But it hurt good.

Overall, definitely have to rate this a good race. Will gladly do it again given the chance.

Interesing you had little contact on the swim, I experienced lots of contact until I hit the first buoy. I actually liked the mass start and the contact-it is good prep for IM. Yeah there were a lot of weeds - I think we cleared them all out for Chip’s next swim. It was a good race/venue definitely exceeded my expectations.

The last couple miles of the run course killed (I was totally busted) me. Paul Wozeniack (sp) must have put atleast 3 or 4 minutes in me in the last 3 miles of the race - I was just glad to see the finish and still have him about 50 yards behind me.

I have a couple of nitpicks, but overall it was a great race - much tougher course then I expected, especially the run. Hope he does it again next year.

The course was great! Weather was almost ideal. It did seem like they weren’t expecting the start to come as fast as it did and a few people got a head start because they hadn’t finished coming back from warming up. Not a big deal as far as it concerned me. There was a bit of incidental contact on the first leg of the first loop of the swim. That was to be expected. One leg of the loop was kinda weedy, but not too bad. The bouys/trampolines worked OK. The bike course was a bit rolling in the first few miles, then it leveled out somewhat. The hills were all fairly short. There was a bit of those grinding longer slight uphills in the middle of the course. It really wasn’t bad though. I didn’t see any drafting and the ref was making a regular appearance to keep people honest. What wind there was, was not too bad - probably under 10 mph. The run course was very hilly in spots. It was also very wooded for a good bit and that kept things cooler. The sky got overcast as the race went on so in the places where it was in the open, the sun wasn’t brutal. It would have been nice to have mile markers on the run. The aid stations on the bike were great and the run was mostly good as well.

All in all it went very well for a new race. Chip is to be applauded for putting on a good race.

I did hear some griping from people about not getting a t-shirt and only getting a bumper sticker at the finish. But hey, we’ve probably all got way too many t-shirts and what do we do with those finishers medals that many races give out?

This was my first HIM. I didn’t really train as well as I should have. However, my goal was to finish under 6 hours and unofficially the clock was 5:57:xx when I finished so I’m happy. I’m not sure if I was the slowest STer and it doesn’t really matter to me.

Does anyone know when and where the official results will be?

I need a nap - 4 hours sleep in two days

Any flat coke left over? That might be a good pick-me-up. Heh. Seriously, I hope you get some sleep. Thanks for putting on a great race!

mchammers took second in 4:18.

Thanks for a great time!

This was my first 1/2, and coredump, you finished 57 seconds ahead of me, so I was in 46th. 25 y/o AG. 30.5/2:38/1:49 ish for my splits. 5:00:10 overall. It was good to see some random people there, I’m new to the forum, but this was a great race. One thing I’d change is to spraypaint the distances to the ground for the run, because the people at the 2nd to last aid station were out of their minds to say that we only had 2 miles left…

Good race overall… my biggest gripe was that a lot of the busy intersections were not manned. I had to take my bike down at the “t” intersection after the turn around. It was that or hit a car. If you ask me every intersectioon were the cross traffic had no stop sign should have had someone there to at least warn the vehicles. Other than that no broblems, just some road rash. Finished fourth and was damn happy about it.

Great job everyone and congrats. That bike course went slow for me, little tough with the wind, but it was still fun.

Paul

good job Paul! Wish I had been there.

Congrats to everyone at Rockman today!

I think this will be a great race on the schedule every year and I’m sure Chip will get the kinks worked out for next years race. Like many have said challenging but very fair course. Very scenic run, with a few nice hills thrown in to keep it honest!

Congrats to Blake for cruising to victory good luck in the rest of the season and at Ironman Wisconsin. Sentenia, great race finishing 3rd and thanks for going through the seaweed before the rest of us! Rockhopper1, bummer about the bail out, glad you weren’t hurt seriously!

A big congrats to Angela (aka Almost Drowning) for winning the womens race, her first but I’m sure not last victory. I think you may need to change your screen name!

It was good to meet some of you at Chips Sat night, thanks again Chip!

MC

Great race, Chip. Obviously there were some issues with the swim, but overall we had a fun time. Camping was a blast. Other than the goose poo, the campsite was gorgeous. We’ll be back next year, and with more folks from Northeast Wisconsin. Colin and Mark send their regards. Mark would especially like to thank you for the ride back to the camp:) Nice to meet you slowtwitchers. See you next year.
