Hot dogs from Yocco’s in PA. Apparently it’s somewhat famous, so we went.
Very unassuming place. The line at the drive through and inside at the counter suggest that it’s good. As soon as you enter, you’re asked for your order in a soup-nazi kind of way.
2 hot dogs with chili, onions, mustard. Side of fries. Water. The water was probably the healthiest part, but totally enjoyable anyway.
today I had like 600 calories of whole-milk honey-vanilla. greek gods yogurt. I got hungry in Target and that was something I could eat in the car. I managed to polish off most of the 32-oz container before I realized it… which is fine.
Saturday: 32 oz mix of chocolate and original soymilk, and few hours later a salad w/ hard boiled egg whites, a little bit of yolk, broccoli, three colors of peppers, cuke, and ginger dressing
Sun: some leftover sushi, a bowl of raspberries/blueberries/strawberries, 4 rice cakes with a lot of peanut butter
Just ate lunch while reading a NYT article on what the Boston Bruin’s team chef makes for meals during their rookie development camp. With a bunch of rookies needing to gain some weight, the amount of calories and food choices is impressive and appealing.
(can’t seem to find an online version of the article. Writer is Shinzawa, it may be online in the near future).
As for my lunch - very pedestrian meal by comparison:
grilled ham and cheese sandwich
multi grain chips
handful of chocolate dipped almonds
sparkling water.
I’m a big fan of grocery store ‘salad’ bars (which I acknowledge are often only loosely salad-based).
It’s like a great mix of leftovers in my fridge, except fresher and yummier and my family isn’t there to judge my weird food preferences.
Today I had a small salad box that included:
approx 3 oz of blackened chicken
a tablespoon of macaroni and cheese, decadent but fuck it, it tastes good
A scoop each of black beans and chick peas - no idea how much each scoop was, other than just right for me
Some blueberries, because antioxidants and they looked fresh-ish
Coleslaw and sauerkraut - it’s a good combo and my colon loves me for it
A small scoop of chicken tikka masala, partly for the chicken but mostly for the sauce
Some cubed chicken marketed as paleo, but I’m not a paleo guy, I wanted more chicken in the masala but that would have involved too much of the marsala sauce
Small amount of shredded carrots
Two cucumber slices
Some raw spinach on top
There’s no restaurant that would serve up this hell’s brew of randomness and it would take me hours of cooking to make all of this available at once, plus it wouldn’t all fit in my fridge and stay fresh at the same time anyway.
It tasted great to me and cost me a manageable amount of money and took less time to assemble than it took me to write this post and I scarfed it while responding to work emails.
Has to be an everything kind of bagel.
Has to be muenster. Doesn’t really work as well with other cheeses. Cheese slices are placed on a newly toasted bagel to get just that right amount of melt. Not too much, not too little.
Fresh tomatoes.
I’m in NY today. So, pizza slice with pepperoni. Side salad. Bottle of water.
I think the only time I’ll have a slice is when in NY.
Because whenever I have a slice elsewhere (or in VA/DC), I’m reminded how much better the pizza is in NY.
