What year is this Trek Equinox?

I think I have it narrowed down to either a 2005 or 2006. Can anybody confirm? More importantly, do you think it’s worth $2500? Here’s a link to a not-so helpful description and enlargable photo http://classiccycleus.com/home/specials/used-bikes/ (wfs)

Google image search comes up with 2005, Trek Equinox 11.

Bikepedia lists it as a $3800 MSRP, but not with the Renn and the trispoke.

Just as a comparison, I wouldn’t say it’s worth the $2500. I just finished getting all the parts to put together a 2009 Felt B2R with Red components, and a pair of 46mm carbon powertap wheels for under $2k. Takes a little patience, but can be done.

John

Yeah its either an 05 or 06 based on Bicyclebluebook.com pix. $2500 seems high even with the wheels, aerobar and crankset changes. Bluebook states $1397 for the 06 in excellent condition.

If you’ve got $2500, here are some better deals:

2011 Trek SC with deep Boyd race wheels (Although I’d trade out the Apex groupset), $2200 obo

2011 Specialized Transition Comp, $1000 sans wheels.

Presuming, of course, that they fit.

But for that money, you’ve got a lot better options than a 9 year old frame.

Thanks for the info. I’m not necessarily in the market, but this Trek is local and so I thought I would just throw it out there. I just signed up for my first 140.6 today, so … I’m having some issues on focusing on work. That Specialized would interest me, if I were several inches taller.

Not worth it, I owned one.

You get no warranty, which was a problem with these. The paint cracks.

The bike has speed wobble issues. But only on downhills when going fast.

Very relaxed geometry.

If you got $2500, you can get a new (or close to new) Cervelo, Trek, Felt, Scott, etc. all of which would be more aero, better handling, better position.

Now, if you want a vintage Trek TT – yeah, then go for it. Pretty cool.

Yeah, just troll the classifieds here, especially this time of year. Sit on them two or three times a day. Source eBay at late, odd hours. I think I put together a pretty decent ride, the frame is 5 years old but it was top of the line at the time, and managed to get somewhat deep rims with a PT.

John

That’s been my ride for the last 4 years. Bought mine used, from a friend, for $1000. It’s not super steep but can be fast depending upon the rider
