What would you write a book about?

They say that everybody has one good book to be written. If that was true, what would you write about? Novel, biography, porn, delve into the history of fruit flies?

I had an idea for a novel where this couple with a young child is driving home during the holidays, maybe in a desert, and are on a long lonely stretch of highway when they are approached by an alien spacecraft and their kid gets abducted. This begins a race against time because they can’t go to the cops with the alien abduction story, so they end up in mysterious encounters and such with old native shamans who can communicate with these alien civilizations in order to get the kid back, but the main old shaman is at deaths door. Meanwhile the local cops, and maybe the military are on their heels.

TGIF bitches.

I’m writing a book. It’s about me!

It’s a biographical novel that contains some porn. And yes, there’s an episode involving fruit flies (and my reaction to the illegal trespassing of a vector control agent).

No joke.

You can’t go wrong with fruit flies and porn! When is it hitting the press? I’m going to put it on my list of reads to make me smarter!

Well, I have to finish it first but my life keeps continuing. It’s a conundrum.

I have 4 unpublished books that I have written. This was before the creation of self-publishing. One day I may go back and reassess my earlier works. They were all SciFi based. I have a new book in draft. The thing I found out about myself is I can create a great outline but I am weak on description development. Basically I need to include more adjectives.

I have joked half-heartedly about writing a book regarding my experiences at the bedside taking care of folks. Some of the funniest, saddest and most amazing things have happened there and while I would love to reminensce about them, I am not so sure someone would want to read about them. Granted, there wouldn’t be any fruit flies, but there was a maggot case once…

I am the opposite. I have written lots of richly developed scenes, maybe a chapter here or there, but I never seem to have a full storyline to hang the elements on. Maybe we should co-author something

Duffy’s Wife.

It’s a fantasy novel about a guy and his make-believe spouse

I’d like to write a book about helping people reach their potential, but in a non-$50 coaching seminar style

I actually once was sitting next to an old guy on a plane (he had to be in his 80s). As soon as we were at a safe altitude he opened up his laptop and started typing furiously. So I looked over and saw he was writing a book. 100% porn. It was awesome and creepy all at the same time.

My work in progress is called Thanks Obama.

It’s about a boy and his horse, growing up together, learning from each other, and ultimately gaining fame as a racing tandem only for tragedy to strike and the horse being put down. Sad story…hitting bookshelves *after *the election because of you-know-who.

Would there be a chapter on “Thigh Gap”?

Would there be a chapter on “Thigh Gap”?

Hopefully just a visual appendix.

I dunno. Some of those images are a bit icky. Surely there is a Venn diagram that can sort this all out.

How does one write a book with Fruit Flies and Porn in it and keep a free hand?

I like when Sci-Fi works in conjunction with actual history. Stargate, in the early years and some later episodes, did this really well. Dr Who occasionally does this as well. I’ve run into several “Book ideas”, most of which I’ve forgotten, along the same lines. Like someone else posted however it’s typically a few “Stories” without any real coherent story line.

I cannot read a book that used Midgets in its making. The scare the shit out of me.

Somehow a fruit fly had worked it’s way into the suit. “Fuck” Duffy muttered to himself as the doorbell rang. “She’s early” he continued muttering as he walked towards the long corridor that lead to the front door, but first a quick stop at the kitchen for some napkins to wipe the prodigious amount of sweat now sloshing between his ass cheeks and squeaking like poutine curds being gnashed between bites. He was certain the fly had drowned by now, but to be safe pressed his back against the wall and vigorously rubbed up and down, hopefully killing the little bastard in the process. “Fucking fruit flies”, this time in a voice that was sure to be heard by his psycho neighbour BLep or whatever the the fuck his stage name was this week. BLep had thought it funny when he presented Duffy with a ornate glass urn that turned out to be full of the pesky fruit flies. When Duffy opened the urn, all the flies disappeared to the nether regions of his one story flat. “Who the fuck gives an urn full of flies as a gift” Duffy demanded of BLep who was bedecked in full chiffon splendour. “I-I-I” was all BLep could yammer. “Never mind” Duffy quietly surrendered, as the magic of what was to be that night wasn’t going to spoiled by some rogue fruit flies buzzing around.

The rubber suit had been a birthday gift from “Mrs Duffy”, and even though she insisted he never wear it without her, the temptation to parade in front of an appreciative Craigslist crowd was overpowering. “Coming!” he shouted to no one in particular, as he pranced towards the door, fruit flies buzzing around his now sweat soaked forehead.

As he arrived at the door he paused for a moment to “adjust”, everything had to be “right”, or was it “left”, he squealed with delight at his little joke. He threw the door open and shouted “Ta-dah” in the distinctive muffled sound of a gag ball…

Duffy was not prepared for what he saw standing waiting for him at his front door. As his jaw dropped, a small bit of spittle flew from his nostril…to be continued
