The Lance Armstrong Ride for the Roses is coming up on Oct. 17. I’m signed up to ride the 100 miler. The question is: should I ride my Guru Cron’alu Tri bike or my 20 year old Peugot Road bike. I’ve ridden the Guru exclusively since I bought it last February, but the Road bike would be better in a crowd. I took the Puegot out for a spin and it felt like a tank compared to my Guru. What do you think?
i think you’d be nuts to ride a tri bike in a crowd like that. Ride the road bike :^D
If you consider this a training ride, take the road bike.
You wanna be competitive - put some dropbars on the GURU!
RFTR is a huge ride with thousands of participants. A tri bike would be a poor choice. I’d ride the old Peugot. Or, use this as an excuse to get a new road bike! Now is a good time to pick up an '04 road bike on sale. Lots of good choices.
Hey, I also have a Guru Cronalu and I just did a 100 miler last weekend (the BC^4 hilly ride in Ohio) - and yes, I rode my Litespeed Vortex and NOT the Guru.
Leave the Tri bike at home. Having said that, there was a buff female on a Guru Trilite with Reynolds wheels no less there for the 100 miler. She looked fast, but I never saw her after about 25 miles, even after trying to wait for her at the first rest stop.
There will be every kind of bike you can think of for this ride (it’s a ride, not a race). Ride what you are comfortable on.
I will be on my KM40 as I was last year. Ride whatever you want as it is easy to stay out of the peleton and ride aero if you want. It is one of my training rides for IMFL and I do all my 100 milers on my tri bike leading up to an IM.
You need to get a new Madone quickly. Gotta supports Lance’s sponsors, doncha know?
