I put together a review products I tried in 2013 and wondered what everyone else thought of what their purchases this year. Let’s hear it and maybe I will find some new stuff to buy in 2014 ;).
You can read my 2013 Consumer Review here: http://wp.me/p3tHad-6w. Thanks for reading as always!
I stopped being a weight weenie and penny pincher when it came to running shoes and tried the Saucony Cortana. Everything about those shoes is worth it.
Maybe if I stopped being such a weight weenie about my running shoes I wouldn’t get a stress fracture everytime I try to do some off season running. But minimalist shoes are just so much better looking for the aesthetically minded cyclist in me… Can’t they make a hot looking support shoe?
When my LBS sold me on upgrading from alloy to carbo frame …I never thought I’d be able to feel much a difference. way wrong
When I went from alloy to carbon wheels…still didn’t think I’d feel much change. ** wrong again**
Changed my cockpit from stock alloy to carbon…just figured I was shaving weight. wrong 3x
My first thought when I rode on latex was…Holy Sh*t, the difference from butyl felt even more significant than all 3 above!! Huge difference in ride. I’d compare it to back in my rodeo days, one’s like riding a broncs & other like a bull. One your getting pounded up and down. Other’s more roll, side to side. I’m told the ride’s comparable to tubies. I’ve only rode them on my MB, so wouldn’t know. But understand you’re also going from 115lbs down to 90!
I’ve bought too much stuff and including 2 bikes this year and haven’t gotten a chance to properly evaluate everything yet (won’t until next race season midway through).
Gadget wise are my Garmins (500 and 310xt) have treated me very well.
Otherwise, so far getting Brooks Beast 12 might be the best thing so far for me as I don’t have to mess with orthodics not fitting properly in normal arch running shoes.
Everything else I got is just a bonus. Practically new everything (you name it and I’ve bought it this year).
I bought a used Quintana Roo Tiphoon that was in excellent shape. Built it up myself with used, but like new, Dura Ace drivetrain & bar end shifters and a used Zipp aerobar. Only new things I bought for it were Jagwire cables and Zipp bar tape. The build went great, the bike is sweet and I only have about $1500 in it excluding wheels and saddle that I already had!
