Nothing is fun as going downhill at 45 mph on a New York highway full of potholes and a lot of newbies around! I bet people clocking 50 mph on the downhills.
This was the first time for me on this course and so I was not pushing too hard on the down hills. I did see at least one sewar drain that was deep enough to cause a bike crash, so I only maxed out at 38.3 mph according to my Garmin 305 Edge GPS on my Cervelo P3C. Tim
0 mph.
I am glad I didn’t see any crash and I was one of the last ones on the course.
I was just checking the results to check on a friend and noticed some smokin swim times for the 1500. There were a bunch under 20 in the age groups, and my friend was a lot faster than usual. What was up with the swim?
We just trained right for the swim thats all ![]()

A very strong current (this is the Hudson River). My swim time was about half of what I normally take. Tim
max speed was 39.1. The course was a little crowded around me and had to jump into the emergency lane on those downhills to avoid riders. But I felt like a champion climbing up the few hills there were with the “newbies” around, although I wasn’t really going that fast…
I’ll have my data uploaded probably tonight.
But it was fast enough on the way out at one point for a contact lense to blow out.
Really though - the potholes were few and far between. I didn’t notice any significant ones - especially on the fast parts of the course.
46 mph max speed. on another note, i got tired of yelling “On your left!” i don’t know why it always surprises me, but people really like to ride as close to the center line as possible.
