What was your coolest or craziest thing(s) you found while training?

I am only asking because I thought I found a 10 dollar bill today-only find that it was an old worn out piece of paper. No dice.

what have you found that was cool, gross or awesome?

While riding the copper tri, my mother found a Garmin 305. The battery doesn’t last very long, but it works well otherwise. There was no identifiable data on it.

Rubber ducks in the basket we keep pull buoys in!

Cut the head off a sparow in my spokes last summer. I did find a 10 bill. Numerous coins. Today running outside after the rain I found about a gizillion worms out on the street. Also found a PolarHR strap.I put that on a fire hydrant so hopefully person who lostwould ride or run by and see it.

I stopped at a stop sign at the top of a very long hill. As took a minute break, I looked down to find over $7 in change! I used it to buy some Powerade at the next shop I found! hehehe

On another ride I saw something interesting in the ditch (right outside an air force base) and it turned out to be a neoprene hatch cover for a kayak. Perfect condition. I was thinking of buying a kayak at the time, so picked it up. Ended up not getting one, so gave it to a mate with a kayak.

On a third ride I picked up a nice drink bottle with carbon cage still attached. The cage ended up being too damaged to use, but the drink bottle was perfect and still gets used after I washed it out.

A little while ago, in the country, miles from anywhere, I rode past a pink cell phone on the road. Figuring the owner would never find it andit would just get run over, I took it home. I txt the last 5 people on the call list and within 2 hours the 16 year old girl who owned it had picked it up from my place. Maaaaan was she happy (as only a 16 year old girl can be) to get it back. It didn’t even have a scratch on it!

On one ride about 10 years ago, while cycling in the country with a buddy, he saw a roll of fencing wire (used) that had been put out at the gate by a farmer, for the local town councils inorganic rubbish collection. He wanted to stop and get it! It must have weighed over a 100kg (220lbs). Then he wanted to go back in his car and get it. Thankfully he didn’t go back to get it, or his wife would have killed him. He can’t get into his garage to get his bikes, for all the junk he’s collected!

If you just stare at your front wheel when you ride, you will never find anything good on the roadside!

I found and took home an unopened bottle of jeagermeister while running.

Bumped into the missus whilst out training four years ago, riding my bike around Northland, NZ. Got talking to her and started ‘riding’ together (No pun intended) We get married later this year.

Does she count, she is pretty strange, spends so much time on this crazy thing called triathlon. I just don’t get it.

SB.

none of us ever will.

A friend of mine found an artificial leg while we were out biking, it was a lighter type artificial leg with a Saucony running shoe attached… he actually picked it up and rode the rest of the way home with it. We live in a relatively small city (150,000 people) and know of one person with an artificial leg who is also a triathlete so obviously we contacted him thinking he might own it or know of someone who does, it turned out to be his leg. The guy’s car was stolen the day before and the thieves must have thrown it out the window. The leg was actually worth more than the car that was stolen so he was super grateful to get it back!

I live and run on a fairly busy rural road. I see all kinds of stuff dropped or tossed out mail, refrigerators, deer carcasses, you name it, but I would never pick up a bottle of anything no matter what it looked like, chances are it’s a bottle of PISS.

ICE CREAM! Right before my very eyes. While riding my bike, a ice cream truck turned a corner to hard and the side door flung open. Out came about 100 gallons of ice cream in 6, 1 gallon containers shrinked wrapped together. I grapped 12 gallons an bolted home. Of course I quickly realized I didn’t have enough freezer space for 12 gallons of ice cream.

I was at the Alabama Cycling Camp. We were on a group ride and saw a pit bull puppy - walking right down the center line of the road - not more than a month old.

Learned that it is tough to keep a puppy in your jersey pocket.

Flagged down a farmer in a passing truck and gave it to him. I’m sure he was grateful.

Dude, that was stealing from a hard working person that probably just makes the bills by the end of the month.

Out running one spring, training for my first marathon, in the middle of nowhere, I found a surgical clamp with a 1/2 joint still attached! I reckon the owner had either tried to flick the ash out of the car and was so stoned they dropped the whole lot, or they’d seen cops or whatever, and intentionally ditched it. I picked it up and still use it very ocassionally for it’s intended use. hehehe (might explain why I’m such a crap triathlete!)

I giggle every time I use it…but that might not be because it’s a funny story.

I found a cell phone as well. It was a Blackberry Pearl, and was able to figure out how to work it well enough to call the last couple of people. Got her brother and mom, and then her friend, who gave her a ride to my house to pick it up. She was a cutie, and we went on a date… but only one, cuz she was NUTS.

The coolest thing I ever found was a SAG van supporting a group of British cyclists in Vermont.

The reason it was so cool is that they had a map. I was on a solo ride out of North Adams, MA, and had written the route directions on a $5.00 bill. Leaving Bennington, Vermont on Rt. 9 there is a wicked hard climb, and I spent the money on the top of the climb for some water. After descending the other side and riding for another half hour, I realized I had no idea where I was or where I was going and there was no way I was going back up to get my $5 bill.

The Brits got a huge laugh out of that one.

I found a fresh roll of toilet paper once and I happened to need it at that moment, it must have been a gift from above.

I found a $100 dollar bill twice! Over ten years ago now. Once was in the gutter near a gas station while running and the other time riding and noticed what looked like a bill about a foot off the shoulder of the road.

I am always finding tools. Probably looked funny with a hammer hanging out of my jersey but hey it was a nice dry wall hammer. I have a collection of exacto knifes that fell off a work truck.

I think it is good carma to return property if possible and I will do that if there is any possible way. The items mentioned there was no way to track the owners.

that is crazy!
best vote in my book
although the $100.00 2x is nice!
and the ice cream! haha

Found a used condom once. It wasn’t rolled back far enough to see the serial number.
