What to do with old license plate?

Quick one,

I have a an old license plate from a car I had back in the early part of the decade. The car is long gone. Totaled in a crash.

Any ideas on what to do with the plate?
Recycle? Trash? etc

I think it depends on the state… Just last week I ran into a problem with NY state while trying to get my CA driver’s license. They put a hold on my record, because there was some weird period of time that elapsed between when my registration expired and no return of the plates apparently. Now, I have a set of CO license plates that didn’t get returned and didn’t cause me any problems. You may want to check with the state DMV and the national register.

Otherwise, do whatever you want with it.

Haha! I have a couple in my garage hanging on the wall. Never had a problem in NY State.

** Edit: They’re getting $139 for this… I’m in the wrong business.

I send mine to some friends in Europe, kind of a nice souvenier for their wall.

The Barkley Marathons ultra at one time required a license plate from your home state as part of the entry packet…if it still does, there you go.

Make an ash tray out of it, that’s what they do in the state pen.
