What to do in Michigan this weekend?

Help. I am going to be in Birmingham this weekend and was wondering if there are any tri/running events going on. Of course, I might need to make a trip to Tom D.'s. Is there still a F.A.S.T. swim on Saturday? Any help would be appreciated.

Lots of rides this weekend.

You could make your way to Grand Rapids to participate in the Riverbank Run. 25K or 5K running event. See the following link: http://www.53riverbankrun.com.

This event is BIG and very exciting.

Have fun

there is a great duathlon in Gaylord- 5k 30k 5k. Real cool hilly ride. WAY low key race- maybe 70- 80 people. Starts at 10:00 a.m. Race is about 3 hours north of Birmingham.

Race is called the Starkermann. Let me know if you need more info

FAST swim on Saturday morning at 7am, Schoolcraft college.

A few club members are going for an easy training session on the Ann Arbor bike and run courses.

along with earlier mentions there is at least one 5k in the detroit metro area.

Starkerman is a cool race. first time i went up there they were using numbered popsicle sticks to keep track of overall placement.

you could always head up to Stoney Creek and do your own event.

You have received a suggestion for the Fifth-Third Riverbank Run - but that’s in Grand Rapids, a 2.5 hour drive away from Detroit. Here are some more realistic ideas:

Go to www.runmichigan.com, hit “calendar”, hit May 2005 - and you will find several running races in the Detroit metro area over those two days. Including:

Saturday: an xc run in Northville, the Fr. Burke Memorial Run in Birmingham, the City of Westland 5k, and Run the Pointe in the toney east-side suburb of Grosse Pointe.

Sunday: the Dragon Dash in Lake Orion, a 10K in Ferndale - or you could slip over to Ann Arbor and volunteer at the For Women Only 5K (benefits too obvious to explain).

Lew

Just for logistics. Looks like there is a race IN Birmingham. Ferndale is close to Birmingham.

Grand Rapids and Gaylord are NOT close to Birmingham.

Who would suggest that you go to GR or Gaylord from Birmingham if you are only in town for a week? 4 hour drives each (or real long anyways).

I assume that was a rhetorical question.

When I visited Tasmania (three decades ago!), a resident asked if I was from the U.S. When I responded in the affirmative (I assume it was the accent that gave me away), the reply was: “I’ve got a friend in Los Angeles; maybe you know him?” For some, the amazing size (and diversity) of planet earth is a foreign (!) concept.

Unfortunely the weather forecast is not looking up or this weekend. We froze on the ride this morning. Windy too.

It was a good morning to drink coffee.

What happened to the Grosse Ile Du this weekend?

Cancelled, no real reason given. Tom offered to keep it up and running but no joy.

well, the subject of the post asked “what to do in Michigan this weekend.” Gaylord and Grand Rapids are in Michigan. Just trying to be helpful

I’m sorry. You were being helpful.

I shouldn’t have worded that so harshly. I was just teasin’ a little.

So… how about all those sex threads on slow twitch? I think I’ll have to check some of them out.

no sweat-
