I should be getting my Zipps (650 Clinchers) today and before heading to LBS for tires wondered if anyone has had good experience (ease of installation, reliability) with a particular tire. I read somewhere that Zipp rims are a little larger than norm and to avoid the Conti’s which are a little smaller than norm.
I use the Vittoria Corsa Evo CX Clincher***'s*** on my 404 's…
Stay away from the Conti’s - next to impossible to change in a race with Zipps. I like the Michelin’s.
Nashbar has the Vittorias for about half price in the 650 right now.
Agreed - it may not be the case with some rims, but every rim that I have ever tried to get a Conti clincher on/off has been a brutal experience. I have done it, but it has taken a huge amount of effort and way to long. I have had much better luck with the Michelin clinchers - much easier on/off.
As for racing, If you have commited to Clinchers, so be it. Better bet would have been to have gone with Tubulars for racing - and then I would reccomend Conti’s because they do make outstanding Tubular tires - some will say the best!
Yes contis clinchers are a bitch to get on. I’ll second the Vittorias.
I went with the Michelin Pro Race Ironman edition and did a 50 mile ride this morning - awesome wheels. I noticed the front hub seems to make a consistent noise (like clicking) is this normal?

Me too.
Great tires on 404’s.
Enough said.
