What stupid things do you buy that make triathlon purchases seem reasonable in comparison?

I’ll start: I spent 30 minutes this weekend comparison shopping for a $200 designer wooden bird.

Stupid.

What do you do with a wooden bird?

Not to rub it in but you could have made or bought a little birdhouse, throw in some seed, and see the real things

How much more do you have to pay to get the feet?

Um, yeah. That is stupid.

I get OCD about something and won’t rest until I find the exact one that is perfect and find the best price. I will spend hours and hours online looking for “it”. My biggest hang-up are bags. I have yet to find the perfect mix between purse and tote. I need pockets but also a nice big interior space. It can’t be too big cuz I don’t want to look like I’m carrying around a grocery bag. It has to have a back pocket I can slip my keys and cellphone into.I want one internal zip pocket for random stuff like chapstick. I’d love to have a waterbottle pocket. I don’t know why because I never use them. It has to be washable cuz a dirty bag is gross. I prefer a top zip but will go with messeger style if I find the right one. I have easily a dozen bags and have yet to get it exactly right.

I don’t spend much on tri stuff…but I spend WAY to much time drooling of computer stuff. Some people are weight weenies I’m a PC speed weenie…sadly I never have enough cash to get that “Carbon Fiber PC”

wine and travel.

That is a handsome bird.

Lawn trout
.

Actually, that is a very nice bird.

Where’d do you get it?

Hmmm … I have actually used my triathlon purchases to make my OTHER purchases seem reasonable. Case in point, the super-automatic espresso maker I purchased last month (which is STILL AWESOME by the way).

I’ll carve you one for $150.00. Who would have thought there was money in wooden birds? Of course you could get hand carved decoy’s with custom paint and spend some real money.

I knew a guy who hand carved decoy ducks full time for a living.

Why couldn’t you have just waited for someone to give you the bird instead?

Well, it didn’t seem stupid at the time but…

I’ve been planning to get a digital camcorder for a long time. Over Christmas, there was a sale on a high definition camcorder with internal memory and sdhc slot. Great deal, so I got it. Awesome camera for the price.

Anyway, as I learn more about this stuff I realize the cost of the camera is just the beginning.

Now I need the stuff to be able to process what I shoot: faster computer with large hard drive that can burn dual/layer DVD with AVCHD Modern Blu-ray player or Playstation 3 that can play AVCHD disks Editing software capable of working with HD videos Class 4 or better sdhc cards hdmi cables (why are these so expensive and do the cheap ones you get at discount electronic places work?) extra battery packs filters
What have I done?

There is a company up in Montana called Big Sky Carvers or used to be called that. Some of their work is truly amazing, hand carved and painted. They were art more than functional. You could probably google them.

Two years ago I had a house for sale and turned down an offer only 5k below asking price. I’m not even telling what I ended up selling it for. Stupid, stupid, stupid!

I kind of like your bird. Was it something your s.o. wanted? Do you have a link to a place that has them that you can post? I’m kind of intrigued…

I spent $500 on a round of golf.

I spent $300 on a bottle of scotch (several times)

$599 on one golf club.

$45000 on a truck.

$1700 on my 30th b-day bar tab.

$400 for two steaks at a fine dining establishment.

$3000 on a TV

$1600 for two seats to the Stanley Cup Finals

Yeah, Triathlon ain’t so bad.

For the HDMI cables, DON’T go overboard spending lots and lots of money on them! Go to monoprice.com and order them from there - they are a LOT cheaper than the big-box electronics stores and work just as well. I read a website forum up here redflagdeals.com and they are the place to get cables - HDMI or anything else that you may want/need.
