I just bought a Zipp Sub9 tubular and I wanted to know what size tine I should get. Here are the things you should know(I don’t know what matters or not):
- I am 5’10" 170lbs
- I usually stick to Halfs, Olympics, and sprints but I am training this year for Ironman Louisville.
- I already have a zipp 808 in the front with a 25mm Tufo Elite Ride. If necessary, I will change out the front tube but it would seem logical to just get another 25mm Tufo Elite for the sub9 if it doesn’t cost me any watts.
The new Zipp Tangente SLSpeed 24mm on the Sub9 and the Schwalbe Ironman up front. Both roll great…and significantly faster than the Tufo. Though I have a feeling it offers very good aerodynamics, until I see some info, I’m going to keep the Tangente SLSpeed on the rear. If you want to stick with a wider tire up front though, you’ll still be many watts faster with the with the new Tangente 24mm up front and on the Sub9.
Somebody will likely chime in here with watt numbers, but you might be in the double digits as far as watts saved by running the Schwalbes, the new Zipps, or a combo of the two versus running a pair of Tufos.
