What Size TiPhoon Are U On - Advice?

Just looking to get some feedback on this. I’ve been racing on Softrides since '97 and will be making the switch to a QR TiPhoon this season (thanks Herbert!). I had the luxury of speaking w/ a few of the top pros while in Kona this yr and they were steering me towards getting on the smallest frame size possible to achieve the best position. This is somewhat contradictory to what those at my LBS are saying, but I tend to give at least some credibility to the guy who biked low 4:50 this yr!

Obviously this is a broad statement, but I’m curious to hear any feedback from those of you on a TiPhoon (your measurements, size frame your on, thoughts, etc…).

Thanks!

5’9" - 53cm Tiphoon (2005) 10cm stem. Awsome bike!

“they were steering me towards getting on the smallest frame size possible to achieve the best position.”

it entirely depends on how steep you want to ride it. i’m getting one, and intend to ride it steeper than the stock configuration (i’ll ride the saddle forward on the rails, and might even figger out a way to ride it steeper yet). this gives me an artificially short top tube. so, i’ve got to go to a bigger size.

i used to ride QR bikes in size 59 back when they were 78 degree seat angles, now i’ll ride a 61, because when i steepen it up the 59’ll be a bit too short i’m afraid.

the top tube is a bit tall on the 61cm, however i’ll be riding low profile armrets which’ll drop it down.

Brian,
