So here is my question- I have an old Polar heart rate monitor which is on its last leg- do I ask for the new Garmin heart rate, pace and distance monitor or should I get VO2/ lactic threshold tested for x-mas? Is it old school to go by heart rate anymore?

you can take it in the car and stuff around with it heaps more. My dad is in a bush walking club and travels all over to walk different place. He has a GPS with a plotter in it. He maps out using Oz Explorer where he has gone, elevation etc etc! Loads of fun post walk/exercise
