What shoe do you big dudes use?

I’m looking for a good shoe. I’m 193 lbs, and my left shoe tends to breakdown on the outside. Pronate? I don’t know. Anyway, give me some opinions please.

I run in the asics gel cumulus… since you’re wearing the outside of your shoe, i believe you need a neutral shoe, which is what the cumulus is. I weigh 210-215 if that helps…

I wear the Mizuno Wave Nirvana 4 (I think they make the 5 now) and I love it. It provides A LOT of support for moderate overpronation.

I have used the New Balance 99x for years. Good shoe and it comes in big sizes like 14 4E. This year it is 993.

I’m 6’1" - 220 lbs or so, just got turned on to the Brooks Glycerin. Very solid shoe. I’m about 150 miles into this pair and they’re holding up really well.

6’1, 218

Asics Kayano for training and Olympic distance and greater
Asics 2140 in a half size smaller for sprint races because i don’t wear socks
.

I’m 6’3" and 220 lbs. Love the Mizuno Wave Renegades.

I like the Brooks Adreneline. I am 225 and they seem to hold up pretty well with running 3 to 4 days a week, I end up buying a new pair every three to four months. I like to run in new shoes.

off season I’m the same weight as you. in-season about 6-8 lbs lighter.

I train in Asics Kayanos and race in DS trainers (5k to marathon)

6’2", 220, Saucony Pro Grid Triumph. But it took me several brands to get the right ones, including Mizuno, Asics and Brooks. Have you gone to a dedicated running store (i.e. Roadrunner) and had a gait/arch analysis done?

I am 200-205lbs, and run in Sauconys as well, but I use ProGrid Guide and have had very good success with it. They seem to hold up much better than the New Balance I used to wear.

Ditto on finding a good running store to buy from.

Wear on the outsides tend to indicate underpronation. Chances are good that you will shred your knees and feel it in your hips if you go with something stability/motion control like Kayanos. Stick with a neutral shoe like the Ascics Nimbus or Cumulus or Nike Pegasus.

I’m not a small person, and run in the Cumulus. I had to retire the Nimbuses after 100 miles because they had too much control to them and were killing my knees.

What shoe are you running in now?

I’m 6’4" and 200 lbs. I run in the Vitruvian Harmony; best shoe I’ve ever owned - by far. It’s a simple, neutral shoe. I pronate pretty heavily on my right side and it doesn’t seem to bother me at all. $60/pair w/ free shipping. (older models are $30/pair)

I wear the Mizuno Wave Nirvana 4 (I think they make the 5 now) and I love it. It provides A LOT of support for moderate overpronation.
I use this as well and like it.

NB122X (currently 1224). Hard to get away from NB since I wear EE.

200 - 205 lbs - Saucony Grid Stabil 6. Fits me - Feels lighter than its listed weight. David K

I know I’m gonna get lambasted for this, but I fell for the cheapy pair on sale @ Sports Authority. Asics 2120. Battled through blisters the first few runs, then after some use a few weeks ago I developed shin pain. Haven’t had shin splints or pain since high school (19 yrs. ago) Now I have pain just below the kneecap which I’m trying to run through. That’s why I want to try a new pair of shoes and see if they remedy the situation.

6’1" 205 lbs.

I used to use Asics Gel-MC - these are stability shoes for big guys. They work well for pronators.

I switched to Asics Gel-Nimbus about 5 years ago. They are very nice, and since I don’t pronate that badly, they work well for me.

You can go to www.roadrunnersports.com and they have recommended shoes for heavier folks and for pronators.

6’6’’ and 225 pounds
I run in Asics kayaono’s with an orthotic
I highly recommend you go to a local running store that has knowledgable people that can recommend a shoe for you.
