Kona w/o the Lessing factor?
No more qualifiers on his calendar. Now what? Rally back and race again or call it quits until 2006? Perhaps IMFL?
Nuts…

There’s still Ironman Canada…Reid went in 2001 and Won got a slot for hawaii and finish 2nd!!!
So it’s not over until all qualifier races are done…

Reid in 2001 didn’t need to qualify. He has slots for life.
That’s the difference between Reid and Lessing. Reid has won in The Show.
There’s PRO slots available in Canada and the PRO field will not be deep… So he can easily qualify without killing himself out there… He still has some options for this year!
Reid is doing Ironman’s since 1996 if I’m not wrong… So give sometime to Lessing to learn how to race the distance. Three Ironman starts is not much, I’m sure he learn some new stuff today about the himself and the race.
He will come back stronger. Mark Allen fail 6 times in Hawaii before getting he’s first win.
What about the 1/2 Florida Ironman where he got 1st place in MAY???
Does this not count?
no pro slots at 1/2 florida
.
IMLive says he was hurt prior to the race…which perhaps has something to do with it. He made it to mile 19, so about another 45 minutes of running and he was Kona bound.
Listen to his interview on IMLive. Actually listen to all of them. Pretty interesting stuff. I was a bit surprised that Lovato wasn’t considering that Lessing might not “race”, but rather there to simply get a Kona slot…
And Reid DNFed his first two attempts in Kona…
I knew some comments were coming about Lessing and his DNF in CDA.
That Lessing gets them tells me a lot here a clueless.
Hawaii IS NOT the only race in the world. Lessing has won 4 short distance titles, 1 long distance in Nice, won IMLP in record time and has won pretty much all the big races around, short distance or half IMs, draft legal or non draft legal.
Anyone wants to explain Lessing how to become a better triathlete??
Actually I wouldn’t mind coaching him… Simon, if you’re out there, give me a call man! :-p

First part…Blah, Blah, Blah…
Win Kona. But, first he has to qualify like the rest of us.
as a person, Lessing is like the rest of us yes.
As a triathlete, LOL…
He’s been coaching by Dave Scott…I guess “The Man” has quite some knowledge about training…

No, when it comes to Kona. He is like the rest of us. No slotie no raceie.
Man… now I’m getting in trouble even for the posts with multiple smileys???
I bow to “The Man”, a great athlete and a tremendous coach.
Trevor, actually Lessing can still get a slot as a wildcard entry, although the WTC does not seem to want to hand these out even to guys like Lessing, a multiple World Champ. I believe in 1996, they did give LVL a wildcard entry.
Dev, after viewing Lessing interview (Ironmanlive - CDA) I don’t think that he would like to get to kona by the back door…that’s my personal opinion.

Didn’t LVL win the world LC championship that year? If you were Lessing would you take a gimme after trying and not getting a slot? I would think he has more self repect than that.
…agreed on both counts. I think LVL may have won the LC world’s at Muncie that year. I am sure Francois can correct me if I am wrong.

OK guys, I had a bad day at the office. I felt crap all day and really battled to hold my food down today. I started to throw up at about mile 17 and felt a little better for about two miles.
I decided to call it a day at mile 20 as I was not feeling well at all.
I wanted to hang in for a slot but it was not going to happen today.
The bottom line is that I have a few options coming up, Korea, Switzerland etc, so I will decide what I am going to do in the next few days.
By the way, just for a few who like to trash talk. I have been doing triathlon for twenty years and I am happy with what I have achieved in my career. I would like to do well in Hawaii but I am certainly not going to judge my whole career on one race.
This Ironman thing is new to me so i will have to ride the ups and downs while I figure out what works for me.
Any way thats all from me in CDL, both Lisa and I want to get home to see the kids, we miss them like hell!
