right in front of the seat appears to be two bolts for a water bottle and a hole. Any ideas?
Stem reflection?
pee hole.
My guess is the 2 bolts are for a custom bento box like the Speed Concept has on the top tube. The hole could be for routing standard cables through the frame (for non-Di2 versions) or possibly to house an internal hydration bladder like the new Shiv? But the more I look at it I think it’s a shadow as others have suggested.
Hello Aluminum Man and All,
My guess is a hydration pocket running down the tube with an access hole for the drinking straw.
Cheers,
Neal
I thought you guys were going to laugh at me and tell me what it was. I was also hoping it was a hydration system bladder thing also. I guess we’ll find out in the morning, huh?
Looks too small. But I was hoping it was a place you could put your spare tire/tube, etc.
Shadow? Reflection?
Nah, the main light source in the photo is from the bottom of the picture. To be a shadow, that would need a light source from the right (and no other elements support this) while for a reflection the light source would need to be from the left and this too isn’t apparent anywhere else in the picture.
I asked this question in the P5 thread yesterday and did not get an answer. I do not think it is a reflection at all.
Given the asymmetry of the black mark, I am pretty sure it is just a reflection.
But the top tube bolts? Well, we make a Speedpack that will fit right there and snug up perfectly right behind that 3T stem flawlessly, withing millimeters. No velcro. Just hidden bolts. And weighs just 60 grams:

Glad you like the Speedpacks. And we’ve got some advanced new stuff coming.
And regarding this perfectly compatible Speedpack, it is not an accident. There is a little more to the story, but let’s just say that we’ve been having some communications with the manufacturer of the P5.
My guess…the cable stops don’t sit right on top of the top tube, but are installed a bit further down. That way the cables are not anchored tight between the back of the stem/bar combination and the top tube, and are yet still protected from the wind.
Think of a straw in a cup.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Greg, starting way back in the UWAL wind tunnel, what, almost a year ago now? His SpeedPack fits these bosses perfectly.
By the way there is no hole, it is indeed a shadow, as several guessed!

Congrats on a beautifully designed bike reminds me of a Michael Graves designed artwork(pre-target) Simplistic and beautiful if I didn’t already have a Blue black ops on order…
Thanks for clarifying.
Just curious though, with the cables coming out of the back end of the bars so close to the top tube, how much cable “slack” (for lack of a better term) is there to allow rotation of the bars? Not that much is needed during normal riding, but just wondering.
