i guess i’m pretty pathetic compared to some other posters. i’ve done a handful of 3hr rides on the ct while watching old im videos. anything over that and i’m bored to death.
The boredom just prepares you for the second loop! ;p
Gears 24hr spin for Cancer, year 2000, 12hrs on a spin bike in 4 3hr shifts
Gears 24hr spin year 2001, 18hrs on Taxc Basic trainer, 380km
Gears 24hr spin year 2002, 22hrs on same trainer, 490km.
Amazing what you can do when you are doing it for someone else.
That is just sick and twisted.
I’ve also done 4 24hr mtb relay races, three as a tag team, and one on a four person team that turned into a tag team. i like looking into the darker recessess of my mind that you can only reach after complete exhaustion. I like to take my body beyond the physical limits and find out what the mental limits are, because when it comes right down to it, a weak mind is more of a performance limiter than anything else.
About a year ago I did a three hour spin class. It was me and 6 women, three of which were very fit, hottie MILF tpyes.
I’m a pretty big sweater, so after 2 hours I have created the newest Great Lake - Lake Foolish - under and around my bike. Hell I think there were even a few tributary rivers forming.
At this point I strip off my my soaking wet shirt and put a new dry one on. What a sight, my falbby white body giggeling around on a spin bike. I’m prett sure a couple of the ladies in the calss puked.
We get to the the final 30 minutes and a new instructor starts leading the class. This woman has no freaking idea what she is doing and proceeds to take us as annerobic as possible. No kidding within 90 seconds my heart rate spikes 25 beats per minute. I’m flat gassed out and pull way back, grunting and moanon for the next ten minutes. And again the women in the class are looking at me like I’m some type of freak.
To this day a few of the girls (all the hotties) will not even look at me let alone say hi. I’m sure I have etched some horrible image into their minds. Hell I think one or two even gave up spinning all together after watching my exploits.
6 hours on the CT. I figured if I could get through that, the flat course at IM FL would be a piece of cake. Also used to watch 90 minute soccer games while riding rollers. I had to stop after one particularly exciting game found me on the floor, but still cheering. I sold the rollers the next day and got the computrainer.
Me, I’m a sissy, I can’t go much more than two hours, but this fall it was raining on a day my wife needed to get a long ride in getting ready for IMFL. As I was going out the door to play poker on a Sunday afternoon she was getting on the bike. I jokingly said, “You better still be on there when I get back.” I get back over 5:30 later and she is still on there.
Now how many of you have that much control over your wife? ![]()
If I tell my wife to not go on the trainer all year, she will do it. How is that for control ?
I’ve done 6hrs on a spin bike with instructors, and have heard of 8 and 12 hour events. Usually for charity. It’s a lot of fun actually.
This will sound ridiculous… 1h30… ![]()
and I think I only did it once…
5.5 hours for me.
and I’ll do it outside, regardless of the weather.
That is big of you considering your place of residence;)
.
My wife did several very long sessions on the trainer when she was training for RAAM. Longest I think was 11 hours. She went through a lot of movies. She also did a few shorter sessions in a hot attic in the summer to prepare for riding through the desert.
Personally, after an hour on the damn thing I’m ready to chuck it out the window, I don’t know how she did it.
And I thought riding thru “The Godfather I” was long enough…
Good think I’ve moved back to the southern hemisphere…
A bit OT, but wanted to share:
Last night I tried for the first time playing Madden 2005 on PS2 while in the aerobars on the trainer. Worked great and time flew by, but my cadence would shoot way up whenever I was trying to do a running play!
i did 2 hours on the powercranks indoors a few weeks ago, and it looks like i’ll probably do it again today. i’m not a big fan of riding around in the rain this early in the season, plus you get a much better powercrank workout on the trainer.

Many 2 hour sessions on rollers… One winter, I was outside under a small overhang that barely covered me. It would be pouring rain while on the rollers. I just kept on telling myself, “Money in the Bank… Money in the Bank”. The problem was that everytime I would hit the 2 hour mark, I would start to get a flat on the rear wheel… must have been the friction on the tire or something???
I’ve done a few rides over 5hrs and one or two close to 6hrs. On top of that I routinely ride 2-4hrs on the trainer over the winter. I want to ride the P3 to really teach my body the new position on my P3 and I can’t bear to take it out in the yucky rain.
I find that spending that amount of time on the trainer is very beneficial for me personally. I develop a very strong mental edge and can also really hone in on specific areas of development. It also forces me to not slack off at any point in time because the fluid trainer always reminds me to keep pedaling and there is no drafting and no downhills.
Thank heavens Santa is delivering an iPod under the tree so I can make it through some of the 6-7+hr trainer rides I’ll be doing in prep for Ironman Arizona.
How the F do you do it??? After 45 mins, my rear is getting really, really uncomfortable. I shift every few seconds. I think I’ve done maybe 3 or so that have gone >90 mins, with most right at 45-60 mins. Longest was about 2.5 hours, outside, at a criterium. I got dropped really early and just quit likle a sissy, so I punished myself by cranking through the next 4 or so races just watching. Serves me right.
