What is the deal with the new FSA wheels?

I have been patiently waiting for the new FSA wheels to hit the market - specifically the deep aluminum and carbon ones. They were supposed to ship out in Jan, but apparently they are having trouble building the ones with the flange in the middle of the hub. My LBS was on the phone with QBP, and they have yet to see either of these wheels and there is no ETA.

Anyone have insight in to this?

We bought about all the FSA stuff J&B IMporters had this week. Aerobars, compact cranks, base bars- damn near everything. They didn’t have much, but they had some. J&B is more of a Mom & Pop bike shop distributor, not a real high end distributor like Oschner or Quality.

J&B may have some. Have your dealer phone them in the morning. They have five warehouses throughout the U.S. If your dealer has an account with them they can ususally get stuff in 1-2 days.

The stuff is in SUPER short supply. If the wheels are 1/2 as good as the aerobars they will be pretty nice.

Good luck!

In addition to what Tom has already mentioned, it is still early in the year and the new FSA wheels only transitioned from prototype to production after Interbike last year. I imagine that given the high demand for FSA components and seeing as it is early spring, I imagine that the pro road teams that ride FSA components/wheels have probably put a big dent into existing inventory levels. In fact, I would be willing to bet that demand has been so high, that it would not surprise me if FSA has already sold out its intial 2004 production run and is now waiting on a container that is being sent on a slow boat from Tiawan (or Malaysia)! Furthermore, although not as much a problem for FSA, no manufacturer or marketing firm wants to end up over estimating production requirements that could leave them with a wharehouse full of excess inventory at the end of the year. So for that reason I imagine that with the state of the US and gloabl economies, FSA was a bit leary and the original production runs were probably very conservative.
