I did not find anything with search and the Outlaws site with the elevation profile is now defunct. Any descriptions? I am thinking of doing that this year instead of the rather boring Spirit of Racine. Am I just in for the same flat riding? Zzzzzz!
A few rollers. Nothing serious. Pretty ride through the farms in the area. For the most part, the traffic is light—except for a stretch on Blue Star highway. Roads are good and the support is great.
I did Steelhead as my first half IM last summer. The course was not flat, but was not incredibly challenging, even for as novice a cyclist as I am. I also thought that the course was very pleasant to ride on, well marked, generally good roads, aid stations were fine (every ten miles) although I had to pry the bottles out of the volunteers’ hands, police keep the intersections safe and there was some nice scenery. Biggest hill or two was near the end.
It will be interesting to see whether the level of competition is much different as the race will be part of the 70.3 series this year.
The ride is mostly rollers with only two hills that I would classify as “climbs”. The course is nice except for parts of the blue highway which has some nasty holes hiding in the shade making them hard to see.
We are working on getting Blue Star fixed for next year. If they do not pave it, we will try to use the course we had set up for last year, but could not use because of some “chip and seal” that they put down 2 days before the race. You will like the course and the race. Z
Swim is the best part though. You get to dive off a pier. Oh yeah, finishing on a beautiful beach (and I say that being from Laguna Beach, CA) is nice. Aid stations everywhere. Just plain awesome race. You’re a fool if you don’t do it.
I will be in a condo over Divers’ Cove in about a month and a half and again in March (for Ralph’s). I love the fact that my wife’s grandparents bought that vacation condo there 30 years ago. Laguna makes such a nice change from WI in the winter.
As for the Michigan Outlaws site, yes, it is defunct. However, Ken Mantei posted on here not long ago and gave his email address so if people want they can get the link for the elevation profiles of dozens of courses. His address is kmantei@qtm.net. That was a terrific website!
Steve -thanks - We just put it up today on the site. We will have on-line registration open soon. You can print out an application from the site and mail it in for the 2006 race! Z
Nice. Yeah, I’m in Chicago now. Week at home over the Holidays, but otherwise, I’ve got to suck it up for another winter. Nice buy on your parents’ part getting in there 30 years ago. It’s so expensive now, I couldn’t move back if I wanted to.
