What is the best Carbon Water Bottle Cage?

I am upgrading to some carbon cages. Is there anyone that is better than another? Note, they are for frame mounts not behind the seat, if that matters.

Todd

I don’t know about others, but I have done well with my Zipp cage. Tim

I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the Bontrager carbon cages.

I, too, was shopping around for the lightest, most extreme carbon cages out there. I found a couple weighing in at around 18g and less. I think Serfas (sp?) makes an awesome looking 12g cage. In any event, I ended up getting my carbon cages from Performance bike, forte house brand. They weigh in at only 20g. They were on discount and I had some Performance point saved up, so I ended up getting a two-for-one deal at a total cost of $19.99 plus free, two-day ship for being a member. They look beautiful on my soloist team. They match perfectly.

I also found on ebay a nice deal on a gamma x alpha, I believe. It is very light and matches my blue/white p2c perfectly. It was in the low thirties.

While the super expensive, super light frames are just that, be careful b/c many of them also tend to be a little delicate.

Have bontrager XXX lite 13 grams
Depends on where you use it, on the frame it is great. but don’t even think about using behind the saddle.

I’m a big fan of the Arundel Dave-O’s myself.

I’m using Profile’s Karbon Lite and they 1. Hold bottle well 2. Look nice 3. Moderately priced.

Although not a carbon cage, I prefer theTacx Tao cages. 37grams. very durable. The design makes bottles easy to take out and replace yet holds them very securely.

I have a small framed bike (50cm) so I went with a Arundel side-entry carbon cage. Really nice and works great.

i was in and a guy was complaining about the fact that his new super-lightweight carbon cages had cracked where the bolt attached them to the frame. he wanted them replaced. the tech guy explained to him that this was one of the perils of these lightweight designs, and the best strategy was to add a washer over the top of the cage to spread the bolt pressure. he looked horrified, mostly entirely serious and said “but what would be the point of having such a lightweight cage then?”

i was standing next to the guy, and noted that it was for precisely this reason that i’ve decided to stop adding powder to my drink bottles.

I use the Aerus carbon cages http://www.aeruscomp.com/images/product_images/Cages/onyx_cage.jpg

They are 27g and hold the bottles amazingly well, even in the behind the seat holders like I have.

just FYI, king titanium cage is the same weight, probably cheaper or the same price, and probably twice as durable.

Easy - get some steel King cages. Just as light…and they work with out breaking.

I will second the Tacx Tao cages. I have had great luck them so far. They also make a carbon model that looks pretty sick, but you will pay a serious premium for it.

Those are great cages, until that little tab on the bottom breaks. Which it will. Happened to me twice.

I’m with the Tacx Tao cages. I figure if they’re good enough for CSC’s Soloists, they’re good enough for mine.
