This can include a combination of brands. The chainring combo has to have a 54/42 option. Anyone with some good info? ![]()
Are you opposed to downtube shifters?
How many thousands is your budget?
Assume this is for a TT bike so it HAS to have bar end shifters. Also assume price is not a factor.
New SRAM Force stuff then, mixed in with some Zero G cranks or possibly Stronglights - Ti Wipperman chain, Power Cordz cables, full Ti rear Cog, etc.
Light - yup. Expensive - you bet. Durable - nope!
You can have loads of fun serfing weight weeinies for LOTS of info …
Zero Gravity cranks don’t exist as more than vaporware at this point and besides, the K-Force Lite’s are lighter and have ceramic bearings…If you wanted lighter brakes the M5 at Groupe de Tete are almost 40 grams lighter than the Zero G’s.
Mmmm … OK. You definitely must be a card carrying member over at weight weeinies.com ![]()
I’m more of a closet weenie - no boutique stuff for me unless they work well. I do have Zero G brakes and M2 racer skewers for example on my road bike (but mostly just Ultegra group on my tri bike), but no AX or carbon fiber seats to break, etc. I do have a friend I ride with often on a fully functional 12.5 lb serious weenie machine that keeps me somewhat abrest of the “overkill” parts (crazy Brit). Definitely a hobby for many riders, both serious and recreational (but all with lots of disposable income).
Nah, not really. I built up a Look 585 last year (15.1 lbs due to an XL frame size) and wanted the best stuff for it. So, I grabbed the ZG brakes and was hearing a lot about the cranks. Unfortunately the cranks are apparently not going to happen, so I got the K-Force Lite’s on a prodeal ( I work at REI) with FSA. As the guys from Cervelo says, weight is not everything and I have a good old Thomson seatpost on the bike after crimping the carbon one.
Tune make some of the lighest parts out there - super nice cranks and hubs etc
Check out carbon chainrings… http://www.tune.de/tune_gb/index.php?lang=gb&ebene=3&typ=1&nr=3
45 gram saddle anybody? http://www.tune.de/tune_gb/index.php?lang=gb&ebene=3&typ=1&nr=7&e=1&new=
In all seriousness, aside from the bling factor, what’s the benefit of having the lightest drivetrain on the market? It won’t make you faster.
clavicula carbon cranks are the lightest cranks you can buy 1200$ for a set. match them with stronglight ct2 rings, a kmcx10sl chain, and a stronglight aluminum cassette the whole setup would be ~760 grams.
check poshbikes.com
.
Hands down you would be on a mixture of Record and some other bits. Zero Gravity brakes…so you want light weight - how functional and long lasting?
Tiso mechs and bolt kits. Pimping your ride and the mechs are scary lite / expensive.
The mechs are lighter than DA and Record apparently.
do you need indexing? is durability a concern?
well, you can dump a lot of weight by only having one gear.
Yeah, single speed. I was thinking the same thing ![]()
You could go with a Melvin from Paul’s Components. While it is not the lightest option in the world, you could get rid of the cassette and run a 16 on the back with a Melvin and run a standard crank up front. Have a gear to down shift to on hills and then have a larger gear for hammering.

@ 80g you save over 100 grams on a Dura-Ace rear, you can use a light front derailleur and a down tube shifter to save more weight. I have actually been thinking about going with this on my mountain bike SS build up and a Paul’s Thumbies c/w Dura-Ace front derailleur barcon. Then at least you have a couple of options.
They look rather Gold colored… probably is appropriate.
That is a bad picture as that is supposed to be Silver but they do have them in Black.
