What is it with Philly?

The football stadium has a jail, now this? My personal experience with Philly fans isn’t a lot better. During the Lightning’s Stanley Cup run, Game 7 of the semis against Philly, we were all going down the stairs when a Philly fan starts going ape shit: yelling and screaming and throwing punches. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and the cops were waiting at the bottom of the stairs for the douche.

My family’s hometown was 125 miles from Philly, 280 from Pittsburgh. I guess these are some of the reasons everyone in town cheered for the Steelers.

I’ve lived in this area for most of my life, and I can’t figure it out either. It’s not all of the people in Philly, and its not even most Philly fans. But there is a critical mass of Philly fans who really need to get an f’ing life!

I’ve not had any problems watching three of the sports (including hockey), but the two football games I went to were actually uncomfortable because of the rowdyiness and the potential for fights.

Other violent story on the evening news tonight: guy gets shit kicked (literally, stomping on his head and all) out of him in Philly subway by 2 dudes, they take his wallet, slide his unconscious body out of the center of the walkway and leave. Bystanders don’t just stand by, but also record on camera. I’m sure the perps can be talked down and rehabilitated, though, no need for guns here.

Most from Philly are white trash.
It is the organizations fault for selling violence from the 70’s.

Depends on the part of philly you are talking about. I’d say most of their fan base for football and hockey is union trash.

Stupid fans are stupid.

There are 6 reasons, and 6 reasons only why people in your town cheer for the Steelers.

The worst part about being a fan in Philadelphia is other Philly fans. But the resulting schadenfreude helps alleviate the pain of each loss.

I dunno abou that. They could easily be Giants fans, as it is closer to NY than Pitt. I think it is a cultural thing. I guess coal miners identify better with steel workers better than regular city folk. I don’t think anyone outside Philly likes Philly. Must be something in the water.

As a Giants fan who lived in Philly for 8+ years I will say they get a bad rap…recently. I can’t speak on the history of the fan base, but as of recently I think, just like everything else, a few bad seeds can spoil it. Unfortunately, with their previous reputation the media jumps on these stories and lumps them with the battery throwing and santa snowballing incidents. Yes, I can’t stand the fact that I am the one saying these things, but for the most part they are some passionate, informed fans. In my many years of going to Giants-Eagles games at the Linc, I have never had any altercations with them. I go sporting all blue and a jersey, so its not like they don’t know who I am rooting for. Sure there are some drunken slurs thrown my way, but it has never been physical, nor have I ever felt threatened.

you conveniently left out the fact that the source at the forefront of catching these idiots that did this is from a guys blog who happens to be a diehard PHILLY fan.

but go ahead- keep perpetuating the stereotype like everybody else has.

and no- there is NO jail in Lincoln Financial Field.
