What if another hurricane hit NO?

Saw this article and realized that its not out of the question for another hurricane to hit NO again this year. I can’t even imagine.

ANOTHER BIG STORM BREWING

September 4, 2005 – Here comes Maria.

A new tropical storm gathered energy yesterday from warm ocean water in the open Atlantic — and although Maria posed no immediate threat to land, scientists warned there’s a real possibility another major hurricane could hit New Orleans or the Gulf Coast in the coming weeks.

“We’re not out of the woods yet,” said Susan Cutter, director of the University of South Carolina Hazards Research Laboratory. “We’re not even in the height of the hurricane season.”

A forecast released Friday by meteorologists at Colorado State University calls for six more hurricanes by the time the season ends — three of them Category 3 or above.

So far, there have been four hurricanes — Katrina, Irene, Emily and Dennis, a Category 3 storm.

Maria is the 13th named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, one of the busiest on record. The season began June 1 and ends Nov. 30.

“Some strengthening is forecast . . . and Maria could be near hurricane strength by Sunday,” said Jack Beven, of the National Hurricane Center.

That happened in Pensacoloa a couple years back…we got a new roof on the house, the next storm took off the roof…the whole rest of the house for that matter. That is when I learned that two storms in as many months means two claims to insurance…what a mess.

Can’t imagine that there would be much more to lose. The initial mandatory evacuation has now been completed for the most part. Little rebuilding, other than the levees, has begun. Most of what is there will likely end up being bulldozed under anyway. Most personel currently in NO has transportation out and are probably all to willing to do so.
