What If An Unsponsored Age Grouper Won It All In Kona?

Would he or she get the loot? What would the aftermath be like? I think it would be the sweetest thing ever if there was a bomb ass athlete that kicked ass and took names and didn’t care about being sponsored or going pro won the whole thing. Fastest time and in a perfect world passed the Pro’s even after being held back 10-15 minutes after the Pro wave. Your thoughts…

In order to claim any of the PRO purse, you have to race as a PRO.

There have been AG overall winners at some races, Memphis in May, Clearwater come to mind, but I doubt it would happen at Kona.

But in the world of sports, who knows? If Bob Beaman can outjump the world long jump record by 2 feet, perhaps an AG can have that “perfect” day.

Well, to some extent it pretty well happened with age grouper, turned first year pro Chrissie Wellington showed up in stealth mode in kona 2007 (after winning Alpe d’Huez and IM Korea both of which we give zero coverage…), and then blew past McGlone on the bike and then everyone figures out that this no name will blow on the run…Chrissie who?

I’m not sure winning a race as an age grouper is in any way sticking it to the man.

in fact “the man” would profit hugely over something like that, its a great story
