Did Avia sell his soul to improve sales?
They need the matching hubcaps

On the Avia theme, well, maybe 1 degree of separation, I noticed the Nishiki is manking road bikes (in Europe). Who knew? No day-glo yellow 650 tri bikes.
NFS Alpha…where is Kenny?
NFS Alpha was the top of the line and beta was the second tier. Steel frame, Profile bars. They kicked ass. Wish I could find a photo.
I had the alpha. Kenny was my hero back then.
But, did you have matching neon spandex helmet cover (on your ProTech Mirage helmet), seat cover (on your Turbo saddle), speedo (on you…err…never mind) and Uni disk cover on your Matrix ISO CII rim? Oh, and you needed matching bar tape and grip shifts on your Scott 100k bars.

back in the day i worked for HIND and we sponsored “kenny kaboom”. those were NOT speedos, they were the HIND, well i forget the name, but we called them the “kenny mankini” even though from the back he did kinda look like a chick
we made them in all sorts of colors for him but i recall for desert princess one year he wanted white with purple/hot pink piping on the sides…when you’re fast you can wear whatever you want eh? i did bud light san jose back in '92 in one of the samples to test out the minimal pad we put in there. did kenny rock a uni disk cover? i thought he was sponsored by j-disc. at any rate, i was a poor student at the time and could afford NONE of it but i wanted a NFS altron badly. ah the memories.
Yes, he had a J-Disk but that was too rich for my blood back then (I think I was 16 and just getting to racing road). J-Disk was built on an ISO CII with 600 Ultrgra hubs, but I found out that it was pretty easy to get a Uni cover from Nashbar and clip it on…all in all it was much like a kids wheel and on a really windy day they would just blow out, lock your rear wheel and throw you to the ground in full neon lycra glory.
Was is Ultegra back then or just 600? I had a 24" front Nishiki TT bike. Scott clip on’s (after 1990), just bullhorn bars prior. Is it just me or did TT bikes look a lot cooler before aero bars?
I just got back from a 2 hour ride with my 1990 Paramount that I upgraded last year with 10sp DA (downtube shifters of course)
Chip, were you racing out of IL back then? If so we may have crossed paths. I’m in MN
I was Panhandle racing out of Pensacola/Mobile for BikesPlus-Specialized, spent most of the time in the south and west (Juniors)

OMG!!!Nishiki!!
There were the dope sh*t when I was in high school in the '80’s!!! Don’t tell me they’re back again???!!
I dreamed of a Nishiki bike, way, way back in the day. Now, not so much…
Chip,
what years were you racing in the Mobile area. Surely we crossed paths. I was there from 84 thru 2000. Triathons and running that whole time, but the first half of that mixed in some USCF racing as well.
