What happens to the US when Mexico collapses

I watched a piece on the Newshour tonight which suggested that Mexico is on the verge of collapsing into a lawless country. 110 million people along a 2,000 mile border is a national security issue.

no sweat! REMEMBER THE ALAMO!

how about, what happens to Mexico when the US goes tits up?

Thanks for the heads up, I was able to catch the segment.

Interesting stuff. When I lived in Austin in the mid-90s I went to Nuevo Laredo a lot. Would walk around at night alone, etc. Now apparently that would be unheard of.

While visiting Cancun over Christmas the police were out with automatic weapons on the highways south of the city stopping traffic…checkpoints every 20-30 miles or so.

Do you think that if 110 million people would rush the 2000 mile border today that anyone could do a darned thing to stop them…? Mexico is already darned close to lawnessness, truth be told. Their police forces are underpaid, underequipped, and woefully underqualified. Bribery and kickbacks are rampant, there are entire provinces being run by the drug cartels.

I used to work for a multi-national company where the president in Canada was also the president in Mexico. He was told what flights/airlines he could/couldn’t take, where he could go, who was going to meet him at the airport, etc. He was provided a driver/guard, and if anyone other than him would show up, he was told to not go anywhere. Kidnapping is rampant for foreign executives - big ransoms, and most of the hostages are killed anyway…

And y’all worried about the Canadian border, eh? lol

The cops would just stop resisting the drug gangs, and let them duke it out until one group controls everything… then peace and tranquility will return.

Like a lot of people on this forum seem to think… who needs a government? Just let the gangs rule…

another reason to arm your self…I suggest a good 12g shotgun either semi auto or pump with an 18 to 20" barrel, load up on 00 buck shot, a good semi auto pistol in .40 or .45. , a good revolver, 357 mag would be nice, a ruger mini 14 in .223 with 30 round clips, and a good long range rifle, i would suggest a remington 700 in 308 cal, a high powered scope…bi-pod optional…stock up on rounds for all at least 500 rounds per weapon…and remember, always try to take the high ground…

51st state?

Guess the Canuks can be grateful they’ve got the USA as a buffer zone between them and Mexico.

I used to go to that area in the 80’s. It was so peaceful back then. It sure has changed.

Hey, how’s that War on Drugs working out for us?

You kidding me!!! You think they want to come this far north!!! TOOOO COOOOOOOOLD

Overall, I like your style, but let me add some thoughts:

nix the 12 guage, go w/ a .410 w/ pistol grips, loaded w/ alternating rounds- buckshot 1st, then slug, buckshot, slug… Remember, this is just to clear the hall/foyer, right?

pistol: 9 mm for the wife- 5’1" frame can’t reset w/ any sort of kick. .45 only for yourself- b/c if you need to use it, they deserve to die of shock.

I like the mini 14. Whatever the civilian equivalent of the M-4 is, that’d be my choice- familiarity.

Always remember to keep a few other tricks handy- an ash axe handle with a grippy handle is a nice touch, and a blackjack is nice too.

The cops would just stop resisting the drug gangs, and let them duke it out until one group controls everything.

If the government wouldn’t attempt making drugs “illegal” then we wouldn’t have “Drug gangs”.

Like a lot of people on this forum seem to think… who needs a government? Just let the gangs rule…

That’s odd I can’t think of one single person on this forum that claims we don’t need a government.

LOL… I was just about to say the same thing…

Nothing makes an impression like a crew served weapon.

Go big or go home!

I’m forever a fan of the M2 .50 cal.

Excellent and effective, but for the multiple soft targets and thin skinned vehicles, the M240G is more efficient and, given the recession, more economical too.

“Hey, how’s that War on Drugs working out for us?”

My thought exactly. For that matter, how’s it working out for Mexico?

About the same as the war on terror, we got em right where we want them. Bin Laden’s in a cave (how we know he’s in a cave but not where the cave is remains a mystery).
