the swim was cancelled, so they did a 3k run to start the race. The bike must have been where he lost time on the leaders. Anyone at the race? Z

I did the race, and as far as I can see nothing happened to him. These are all quality pros that beat him in a non drafting half Ironman(duathlon). Just because you are the Olympic gold medalist in drafting legal, olympic distance, doesn’t mean that you will crush everyone in other non related races. He did good to get the place he did, and he would be the only one to answer if he was off a bit that day.

Its also quite possible that this was an “appearance” race…and not one that he was racing full throttle…

There are many reasons…maybe you can contact him and ask him about it…most of these guys are down to earth and easy to talk to…if you approach them right…and NOT right before a race…

Better to get it from the horse’s mouth than speculate or listen to others gossip about things…

Off day or good day, he seemed to be having fun and helped give out awards.

I think he made a wrong turn on the run course. I saw one guy that I was sure was a pro on the first out and back twice. I even asked the volunteers at the end of that part of the course if we re-ran it and they said no.

I also heard one guy was pretty ‘T’d’ at the end of the race because he went the wrong way. I can’t say much because I DQ’d myself at Rage in the Sage for the same reason and have no one to blame but myself!
