What gives? (1)

So I was out for a ride this morning, heading back home and blew past what was obviously an experienced roadie. He quickly moved things into high gear; blew past me at the light and proceeded to sprint until the cars caught up with him. He then slowed down, waited for me to catch up and took off again. Then did it again. Now, I’m a chick and I am pretty sure it is obvious that I’m a newbie. What up with that?

That’s the only way that roadies know how to flirt.

He was trying to impress you with his superior cycling skills. Or else he was doing some intervals, and it was just a coincidence that you happened along at that time.

Dammit! Missed that opportunity.

Wait, what a tease…you need to tell us several things in order to get a better idea if the interaction:

  1. Where you riding with aerobars?
  2. Were you in the aero position?
  3. What were you wearing?
  4. What are you wearing as you read this?

LMAO!

  1. No

  2. Yes (in drops)

  3. Cycling stuff

  4. Work stuff (ha - sorry)

OK, so now you know I’m not a retard or moe so lets analize some of the particulars:

Roadies are snobs. Bike snobs. They will always check out your bike, its components and such. They do this intuitively as they are fixated with cycling even when not riding a bicycle.

If this guy was riding along one of HIS regular routes, you have crossed the line of debarkation and in doing so have layed down an informal challenge. Snobby roadies are very territorial and viscious when cornered.

He was probably riding at his normal speed when you passed him. But these things are all relative, you see. After he got passed by a girl, his “normal speed” became his “slow speed.” He then needed to show you his fast speed. Over and over. Part of the workout, or a tleast so you’re supposed to think.

Later he may have thought “Now WHY did I do that?!”
But probably not.

ROFL!!! I guess I should be happy he didn’t stop to pee on the corner, hence marking his territory.

I knew it! Too bad I couldn’t keep up with his pace - that would have been funny.

If he was territorial, he would have stayed on the bike and peed on your wheels. That is how they mark their territory. And when threatened, they make fling goo (packets).

ROFL!!! You guys are killing me!

I think he was a tri geek on his road bike who wanted to impress what he thought was a roadie out on he TT bike.

There is NO way he mistook me for a roadie. Unless I am far more impressive on the bike than I think, I am pretty sure I scream “STAY 100 FEET BACK OR PASS QUICKLY: NEWBIE!”

Im guessing he was insecure and anti social?

Ive been riding and have had this happen to me. They try to lure you into their roadie games, seeing if you can keep up with them or if you could drop them, etc…

I guess I don’t get it since I’m a girl. I can’t imagine that a guy (with the skills he displayed) could think for one second that I’d drop him.

You did pass him! I think they just get pissed when triathletes pass them.
