I’ve found “symptoms” online, but from a practical stand-point they’re much too general.
focal pain at the site, usually an “achy” description, even when off it. Localized swelling and sometimes mild increased warmth noted in the area.
At least, that is the description I get about 10 times per week 
Location (2nd metatarsal most commonly), clinical history and idex of suspicion is the best diagnosis prognosticators. X-rays and/or MRI/Bone Scan to confirm only.
