What do you want to know about Tremblant 70.3 race/venue/logistics

Did this event allow for a warm up swim?

No, no warm up

Yikes. That doesn’t seem wise. That explains why so many I spoke with struggled to get their bearings at the beginning of the swim.

Yeah, seriously - especially since there’s room for a warm up swim on either side of the main corrals.

One thing that they did well this year was that at the swim start there’s immediately a sign that said athletes to the right, supporters to the left as you come in. In other years I’ve done it (2022 was the last one) it was a complete mess - every other supporter had a stroller exactly at the pinch point.

Just shows how strong a swimmer and cyclist you still are - those are legit times even for younger AGs!

Overall had a very good day. I believe this was my 11th time doing the 70.3 here. Like some others, I had some issues with a little bit of panic in the swim, causing me to do more breast stroke than I’d like to admit, and ended up with a swim of 35 and change, about 2 mins slower than typical for me. I tried to make up some time by pretty much sprinting as fast as I could into T1 which ended up being about 3:40 for me. Felt very good on the bike (thank you zwift racing!), did a 2:34, and felt great on the run and got a PB on the run course of 1:37. Think I was 11th in the 50-54 with a 4:52.

What are you next events? Nice job!

Hey I nailed the wind/wave forecast for the swim right???

It’s an honest course (I have 950m of vertical on my Garmin Edge130), so around 100m less than St. George. As I discussed, I now swim 7x per week. Some weeks I bike 5x, some weeks only 2x, but I think the swim fitness does carry over to the bike, but I have been neglecting the bike and I felt it. Now add in a bit less biking than normal, and literally my run training is like someone mainly training for sprints but planning a slow pace on the run, well I get the run split that I trained for.

But I am on the edge of not being able to bike and run ā€œat allā€ depending on how my lumbar disc ailments are behaving (or not) . I think the swim carries over to the bike well, not so much to the run. But in the game of attrition as athletes age up, if we want to get to start lines, I think it’s about what combo of training that your body can take and which we enjoy (we need both). Doing ā€œthe planā€ from years ago, would be a certain way of not making the start lines!

Lol, you did! I wish I could say my bad swim was due to water temp, but I actually didn’t mind the cold water at all, it kind of felt refreshing, I just have a bad habit of letting my brain get to me in OWS…

were you in line for a Marbella slot with that or did it not roll that far? In my age group, top two guys took it.

I wasn’t interested in going, so didn’t go to awards.
